Give Shantae: Risky's Revenge a try. It has the most elaborate overworld out of all the games in the series, making it the best Metroidvania out of the bunch. I think it's also only $10-15 on Steam, too.

Third Lamb is really a difficulty spike and the long way to it only makes it worse. It's one of those bosses that the longer you stall the harder it gets, you have to kill it quickly and be reckless.

What I appreciate the most is how S&S actually managed to make heavy armor work without being OP, but still being very useful. Dark Souls failed to do that very badly needing several patches to just have it work somewhat.
Also wounding system prevents estus abuse, which is a genius mechanic from REALLY should steal for their next souls game. It's so simple yet brilliant.

Both because you're "not into anime looking" (whatever that means) and because the artwork of momodora is artistically inferior to the pixelart, that's a given, the creator being a pixel artist.
Remember this is basically a one man game.

Axiom verge and valdis story are the only good ones.

I've only played PC. It's pretty fun. Shit gets real when you get the dash thing, you gotta go fast.
Both RR and PC were in bundles so you can probably get them cheap on key sites.

Valdis story is superb.

hollow knight is the best metrvoidvania on steam.
ori, guacameme, axiom verge are ok but way worse.
dead cells is more roguelike than metrvoidvania, fun but not the same.

I finished Ori and got 100% in just under 24 hours. Pretty good game for $10.
