It is associated with mostly bad games.

I don't hate Sonic's design so much as I hate all the designs that came after. Almost all of them, regardless of species (even a fucking bee) have the same look with a couple of extra bells and whistles; huge heads, tiny eggplant noses, one huge eyeball, huge feet, big hands, and long legs. It's sameface and samebody, except instead of some 15 year old on deviantart doing it, a big company's doing it.
