The vermin are then randomly culled down to fit a tournament bracket and we watch them fight for our amusement

the original suggestion was for stage 1 and 2 evolution mins to become part of 3rd stage mins after round 3, so they get to be part of the spotlight for more than 1 round, also to encourage team abilitys.

But I think host decided to do the box thing so minions that were left out could still be part of the tourney, which is very fair and keeps more people involved letting them aprticipate even if they weren't lucky enough to get in the tourney roster.
