Repostan the reminder that Cyberpunk 2077 will have "seamless" multiplayer. Which I guess means some sort of drop-in-drop-out system? People have been saying it'll be like Dragon's Dogma, but I dunno about that since it specifically mentions "opponents."

Most of them sound amazing. Netrunner sounds good, but it really depends on the gameplay mechanics they use. Solo sounds like a safe bet for first playthrough, unless their fps mechanics are bad. The most interesting is maybe Corporate, because we often don't get to experience that point of view. Rockerboy for the same reason, however I'm skeptical about the gameplay implementation.

So they'll be a solo campaign with other factions at odds. I think being a Corporate could give you access to more resources and can cut off resources to other groups. Maybe make that playthrough more about strategy than fps stuff.

Full body conversions are a thing in Cyberpunk. There's no magic and therefore no worry about essence loss, instead there's a humanity cost, the more cyber you have the less you identity with humanity, you start to lose empathy and become dehumanized until you lose all concept of being human and become a cyber-psychotic killing machine. Anyway, full body conversions are basically brains inside a fully functional combat cyborg.
Similar to Dreadnaughts from 40k but the design could be whatever you want it to be, it's basically Racter's dream come true.

That's actually what the original gameplay trailer featuring the cops and the girl with the arm blades was about. C-SWAT is the cyberpsycho division of the police. When a heavily armed cyborg snaps and starts killing people they're the ones that show and have take them down. A lot of the people on C-SWAT are heavily cybered as well due to the nature of the job, they're usually pretty close to snapping on their own. Cyberware in Cyberpunk takes a heavy psychological toll on its users and that comes into play more than you'd think. Normally sane people don't just start chopping off limbs to replace them with metal, usually it starts because they were in a military firefight, got fucked up, had a cyberlimb installed and shit got worse from there. Think Armitage from Neuromancer bad.

They depict the removal of limbs as something regular people would strive for in a post-cybernetics society, limbs that don't look human at all ontop of it. You mean private detectives? Technically they could fall under a few different roles. Ex-cop, Netrunner, ex-Media, Solo. Roles in Cyberpunk were not set in stone, a Role basically just gave you a special ability that only that role had, you weren't locked out of other skills or anything.

Outside of certain jobs, most people use their computer primarily for simple stuff like Word/Excel/Powerpoint, browsing the web, and maybe playing some media. You don't exactly need to upgrade for stuff like that, but games keep getting more and more taxing so if you don't upgrade every 2-5 years depending on how much you're willing to spend, you're not gonna be able to play the latest shit anymore.

For example my dad barely plays games and he's been using the same computer for like 7 years with no issues whatsoever.

I guess each class would approach the main storyline from their perspective. If you want to be combat heavy, pick Cop and you'll get a storyline with lots of combat. Meanwhile Media will report on the Cops with their form of gameplay involving video taping and infiltrating for better footage, Corporates will attempt to persuade and talk their way to making better deals, and Rockerboys will lead a rebellion, and all of these storylines coalesce every once in a while.

They're similar in they're both cyberpunk games about low-lifes being hired to commit criminal acts against corporations. Shadowrun adds fantasy races and magic to the mix, Cyberpunk is purely sci-fi. Each has a base city for their setting, Seattle for Shadowrun and Night City for Cyberpunk. Japan was a major player in Shadowrun with the main currency being the nuyen. The EU was the major player in Cyberpunk with the dominant currency being the euro.

Mechanics wise, Cyberpunk used a pretty simple system. Stats and skills ranged from 1 - 10, boosted by cyberware. To perform a task you'd add your stat and skill together and then roll a 1d10 with the goal of the total being greater than the difficulty value assigned to whatever that task was. Shadowrun used dice pools where you threw a number of dice and were looking for successes based on the difficulty value of the task.

Thanks for the explanation. All I knew about them is that they're both tabletop RPGs with a cyberpunk setting, and that they have video game adaptations. I bought Shadowrun Returns, Dragonfall, and Hong Kong during the Steam sale, but haven't started them yet. I played the Super Nintendo one about a year ago, and enjoyed it.
