Are there any existing or upcoming games (beyond Elder Scrolls 6, in which I'm told "colony" building will be a big part, as you play an Imperial sent to a new continent to establish an imperial stronghold) that do Settlement building better than Fallout 4? I tried Dragon Quest Builders and while I like the game and some nostalgia kicks in, it is limited in scope and feels too Minecraft-y.

Any help would be much appreciated! Meanwhile, lets talk about FO4 a settlements and what colonies you'll build in ES6.

I know you're bullshitting, but if this actually happened I would literally hire an assassin to kill Todd. Don't even care if it was traced back to me, the time in prison having my ass split would be worth it.

>>
>>384168127
FO4 settlements were just fucked up and overcomplicated. It's a headache managing power/water/food/your wageslaves/NEETards etc.

Should have been only companions and named characters from unmarked/sidequests/story/encounters that all provide a certain service.

Attacks should have been based only off the result of story/sidequest and never random. For example if you save some sythns during a quest, coursers led by a named miniboss attack.

So much missed potential

>>384169184
The shitty thing about Fallout 4's settlement system is that you only get attacked when one of your resources are low. I think my settlement got attacked maybe once in my 200 hour playthrough. Their free Fallout Shelter app game literally had a better settlement system.
>>
>>384169592
What did he do? I didn't keep up with ESO so I'm genuinely curious
>>
>>384169760
After the poor launch Pete went in and made them focus far more on the Elder Scrolls aspect of the game.
This and the console launch saved ESO.

There are a few articles bouncing around that go more in depth.

It's hard for me to get into settlement building in this game. I don't know how people visualize these huge awesome structures and then manage to fit all the pieces together without it looking shit. I've tried minuteman playthroughs but I never end up building anything.

But it looks to be much more Rune Factory than settlement building... also, it's a kickstarter, which might scare some people.

eh i enjoyed them at first. they could've given more tools and made it so everything didnt have to be so blocky and right angles, but I enjoyed it to begin with. my issue was trying to care after the third settlement. I put a lot of heart into the first couple but then it became a chore and started doing the bare minimum to keep the people happy. not to mention the people are useless. they didnt do anything. I wish they had some autonomy or even just decorated a bit

You guys don't need to worry. You'll have the option of creating your character at the start of ES6.

The system will work (it just works) like it did in the magnificent Fallout 4.

Regardless of race, eventually build, etc., your character will either be a Legion officer (male or female!) trying to reclaim lost honor in the New World. Many exciting possibilities for role playing this character awaits!
-T
>>
Hey, say what you want about Fallout 4 but it had the best character creation mechanics I've ever seen in a videogame.
>>
>>384173107
No they didn't.
You'd get better mileage claiming Myron is a Time Traveler, since there is more supporting that in game than what you're saying.
>>
>>384172628
The point I was trying to make was that the comment by Pete Hines was a direct reply to him mentioning the Kid In A Fridge quest.
>>
>>384173474
Appearance =/= character. There was no character creation, your personality was handed to you in the prologue.
>>
>>384172073
Its not a matter of realism, its a matter of lore consistency. Ghouls arent immortal creatures, they still need food and water they just arent effected by radiation.
>>
>>384174227
I didn't say anything about the voice man, all I'm saying is if they handed the next installment to an outside developer it would have a really good template for them to work with.
>>
>>384174227
Not really you can be goody two shoes, asshole or sarcastic witty asshole
>>
>>384172339
A charitable interpretation could be that the gouls and their son are trapped in some kind of loop. H goes out every day and gets lost only for them to discover him at the end of the day, you just interrupt that. Perhaps trapped reliving the traumatic events when the bombs fell. Would be good if you found him there again when going back a week later, only for them to not understand when you say you have done this before. Still a shit quest though.

I heard somewhere that the team at Bethesda just pulls lore from the wiki and none of them really look into understanding the established lore of the past. Hence you get this shit about immortal ghouls and pre-war vaults full of post war drugs.

What really boils me about Pete is that quote where he says he doesn't care about dialogue and story and only plays games to fuck around. And he's a tops guy in developing Fallout games. He should be working on something more his speed, like a coloring book.

Since you insist she's right and we know from Myron and what Mordinos say that Myron is right, that means Myron must be a time traveler.
We know Time Travel (like Aliens) is a factual part of the setting, and it shows up in a random event in Fallout 2. Thus Myron must have also gone back in time with Jet after inventing it and introduced it into the world before it was invented or he was even born.

That quest made less sense than world of war crafts "collect 10 bear asses" quests.

That quest made less sense than the finale "get in the radiation hole" quest in fallout 3.

That quest made less sense than telling eden to "just blow yourself up, lol" in fallout 3

That quest made less sense than clearing out dungeons for the thieves guild and becoming the leader in a half-hour

I have played hundreds of RPG's and I can confidently say, this is the worst quest, I have ever played, ever. Video game or otherwise.

i agree.

Normies complaining settlement system were to complicated are the same guys bethesda is catering to with the lack of rpg mechanics and quest markers.

You could argue settlements sucked becuase they took away from the main games hand placed settlements and were not very interesting because you never get attack but over complicated or tedious? No. Just dont build a self sufficient settlement at every possible place you can. build one, if you want to.

>>384182290

>>384168482
I would love to see the other continent and make colonies as i explore but i'm sure the inhuman cockroaches at bethesda will waste all their resources patching up their frankensteins monster of a game engine then make a piss poor beyond shallow game worse than skyrim somehow. Maybe they'll take out stats all together like they kind of did with skyrim, except this time giving you absolutely no choice.

Please god, give this genre formula to ANY other company. These priceless, passionless and mediocre faggots don't deserve such an amazing cashcow system they have going. Imagine skyrim with a proper ability system or ,even better, an ability maker like oblivion had but including physical attacks, cooldown and other balancing elements and crowd control etc? That shit would have a larger impact than half life did.

If that formula was given the love it deserves with the budget it deserves, it could easily be game of the century.

I wish you luck.

because choice and decisions were never a part of TES

to be fair, those buildings were built under better conditions, more resources, better tools and funding. Its probably also hard to find people with enough education to engineer buildings well anymore.
>>
>>384192831
In the quest logic sense? No. In the world-exploration sense? Yes it most certainly was. Daggerfall took it the furthest (joining one guild locked you out of others, the choice windows opened and closed right at the stat pages) but Morrowind still had it to a great extent.

You are not your choices in optional entertainment. Liking or disliking this game, or any other game, or any piece of media or art is not a qualifier on you personally. Don't ever let anyone tell you that it is, because if they do they're being an inbred galleryfag and need to just fuck right off.

Fallout 3's writing is objectively bad by very basic structural standards. We're not talking about Sistine Chapel versus Saint Peter's Cathedral. We're talking 'does the structure even stand up on its own weight?' and Fallout 3 doesn't. The reason the writers kept cheating was the same reason Fallout 4 has so many weird flaws; they came up with an idea, a bad one, and instead of admitting it was bad and abandoning it they got wedded to it and kept building scaffolding around it to prop it up. Hence the flash bangs that shouldn't work on power armor knocking you out even if you're wearing it getting thrown from a spot the person throwing it had no possible way to reach both because the spot was impossible to reach and he was supposed to be dead.

>>384193850
I played Fallout 3 when it came out. I don't hate the game as such, but it's still bad storytelling and barely qualifies as a Fallout game. I pointed to Young because he writes well and with clarity, and while I'd like to see a more comprehensive essay tackling things like cavalier violations of established setting in both Fallout 3 and 4, I realize that such an essay would sprawl into something rather absurd. Young, an experienced hand, needed about 7,500 words to set out his complaints and there's very little cruft in that. A comprehensive analysis would rival the uncensored edition of Stranger in a Strange Land for length.

Nothing in the game crosses that 'at a glimpse' threshold. If more of the game looked like that, and felt like what that look implies, I can almost guarantee my personal opinion of it, bad writing and lore rape aside, would be far higher.

No. It would take a lot of time untangling the Matryoshka-doll layering of fallacies in it. The easiest solution is to simply go back and reread Young's original essay. In that light, none of those supposed refutations make a lick of sense. Some of them are crashing non-sequiturs on their face. I'll give you just three. It can be done to every single item.

>Made by James
That's not what 'no reason' means. Young (go back and read the essay if you need help) is referring not to efficient causality, 'the glass is on the floor because it landed there after it fell,' but teleological causality - 'the glass is on the floor because the person holding it let go of it to see if it could withstand the fall'. The purifier is a shitty solution to a problem that the game utterly fails to present as valid in the first place. It's a bad idea chasing after a problem that isn't really there.

>You just opened up the way. How THEY got past(...)
You see the problem with this line? Anon just admitted the thing the person was complaining about was in fact the case - there's no way they could have gotten there on the face of what the player is able to even potentially discover about how this environment works. It makes no sense.

>The flash grenade
What if the player's wearing power armor? Flash bangs (and most other similar denial-of-area weapons for that matter) are useless against it. By that point in the game you most likely would be. Bethesda forgets this for precisely this one scene.

This is why I'm not going any further. Refuting x number of lines of 'nuh uh' isn't worth my time. You holding it up as some kind of devastating refutation makes you look like an idiot.
