The 3DS always had terrible hardware, but great games.
The way you hold it, the battery life, the shitty 3d, tiny low res screens, just one analog stick, some games came with a stand because you couldn't play them properly with just the 3ds. Everything about the hardware was terrible.

Nintendo handhelds are often trash hardware-wise. Game Boy Advance had a garbage sound chip and a lower resolution than the NES.

The Nintendo handhelds won because everything else had a terrible library of games or sucked down batteries like no tomorrow (if not both). Besides, comparing the Switch to the 3DS is a bit unfair, that's like comparing the Sega Nomad to the Game Boy.
