You say it's generic, but do you know of any other games that used a swing song as their main theme? It's a breath of fresh air if you ask me.

Honestly I hate most mario games, but I really enjoyed SM64 and got Switch for Splatoon and new Mario.
The city hub looks horrible, bland gray shit and I don't like the talking hat idea especially those eyes on it.
Other then that it looks great and hope the game will have nice varied levels.

Not even remotely. This doesn't look anything like a Mario game gameplay-wise and the whole real-world aesthetic only makes it worse. There's a reason this wasn't announced until the Switch reveal, Nintendo probably knows it's a stinker. I would be totally unsurprised to learn that this started off as an entirely different game but was quickly altered to a Mario game simply so Nintendo could sell a Mario game within the first year of the console's launch.
