You know, it's pretty hilarious how they make this big deal about Gladio being the king's shield and ditching the group to get more power, yet when he stands before Ardyn in the throne room with the party, he's subdued within like a second along with the rest of the party like it was nothing by Ardyn's plot device powers.

The Playable Character part would just mean there will be a short, shitty extension DLC where you play as that character briefly and in the main game you're still stuck as Noctis permanently. This is so stupid.

Personally, I believe the game had fairly good pacing until arriving in Altissa. After that I believe that things began to get rushed (maybe due to funding, but who knows. I won't dwell on that.) Also, I think that people give the battle system a bat rep, and it can be a little more enjoyable if you incorporate directional inputs and changing weapons mid combo.

SE kinda ripped off Resident Evil 2's story with Gralea's fall. The scientists of Gralea were weaponizing the starscourge into daemons, which then escaped into the city and infected the citizens, who thought there were "disappearances" and didn't realize shit hit the fan until it was too late. Does that premise sound familiar? Yeah I thought so.

All in all. After the "Mid point" of the game (Altissa) things get rushed way faster and are less enjoyable than the earlier part of the game. Also fuck the Ring of Lucii in Ch. 13.

but directional inputs is just holding it left, right or back and changing weapons, meaning fiddling around with the d-pad is cumbersome in hectic battles. When you even watch people play XV, they always warp to a vantage point and switch weapons there, because it's way too much of a clusterfuck to keep track of everything happening around you in the heat of battle. I just hate how there's 4 weapon slots and magic and the shield each take up one of the slots. I also fucking hate how the there's no distinction between light and heavy attacks, like most action games have.

I know. That is why I only used one weapon, had magic on another weapon, and 2 royal arms for stat boosts.

I pretty much used the upgraded engine blade throughout majority of my playthrough. I never even bothered with magic, despite how insanely overpowered it can be, because the idea of a something that is timer based as well as resource based taking up one of my slots was not exactly an appealing. I essentially wanted to minimize as much possible the amount of times I'd have to pause the game and visit the gear menu to switch shit out mid-battle, so I stuck with engine blade and some other shit I never used because I didn't like the play style, like lance and greatsword. Guns in the game are fucking stupid and the rifle is a fun gimmick but hardly viable. It was basically engine sword + the convenient random summons that got me through the game.

The idea that Noctis can use any weapons and switch it on the fly and have him abilities to warp and magic dodge is ridiculous right from the start. Jugling all those options on a joystick is already hard enough as it is, and then Tabata decided to add directional combos to the already bloated options.
Noctis's jack of all trades style is not a good design in my opinion. It should've been spread across the other party members. Noctis is too OP for his own sake.
