Try 1, a well placed deagle shot or shotgun blast can kill you outright even on the lowest setting.

Compared to 2 & 3, the first game is really hard.

It still blows my mind how much thought needs to go into the shooting in that game.
You need to account for:
>bullet travel time
>enemy movement
>your own speed, which gets added to the bullet
All while aiming for the head because otherwise they'll just eat it and keep going.
Compare that to 3:

I've played through 1 enough times to notice it. If you're moving in the same direction as an enemy you don't need to lead them as much.

Remedy didn't have a better way to accommodate projectile bullets into the first game than make them travel very slowly so that you could actually dodge them in bullettime. It's not very noticeable most of the time since the levels are pretty small but there are some large open areas where it might be a problem.
