It's not that bad, I once beat HL2 only using the pistol outside of the gunship/strider stuff.

I think I found the HL2 pistol more useful than the HL1 pistol.

It fires much faster and can actually kill combine fairly quickly. The HL1 pistol may be a bit more accurate and a bit more damaging per shot, but it's quite slow firing and you'd get wrecked by soldiers, while the HL2 pistol can at least do some pretty fast damage up close.

Animations are better, and it translates well.
Sure it's kinda weak sounding but it's direct.
HL1 pistols animations are so slow and feels delayed, as if Gordon shoots a laser gun and mimics recoil rather than feeling actual recoil.

I hate a lot of the csgo reload/fire animations compared to css. I loved all the m4a1 css animations and shit even if they don't make realistic sense at all.

Wow I had no idea people actually disliked the Half Life 2 pistol.

The only weapon in Half Life 2 I actually dislike is the SMG, it feels like an airsoft gun despite being deafeningly loud, and its so boring to use, you just sort of hover the cursor over the enemy and wait a few seconds.

I like the pistol and revolver in Half Life 2 a lot and use them as frequently as possible.

I would have preferred something in between, the revolver in both HL1&2 is way too strong to the point where it feels like playing with cheats enabled, whereas the pistol is a last resort because it's so boring to use.

It sounds like shit, it reloads slow as fuck, the animations aren't very pleasing, it's weak and worst of all it looks fucking ugly as hell. I hate it so much. The Doom 3 pistol is the exact same. Everything is way too round in that game. The only gun that looks/sounds cool is the Plasma Rifle (understandably the only gun that made its way almost intact from Doom 3 into Doom 4).

The Doom 1/2 Shotgun & Doom 2 Super Shotgun are both way, way, way fucking better looking than this hunk of unwieldy junk.

i have almost never come across a "realistic" sound mod that isn't utter garbage that includes most of distortion, cutoff, bad/no normalization, HUGELY exaggerated low frequencies, extremely obvious compression artifacts, and inappropriate baked-in reverb.

What bothers me the most is that it's easy to see that the gun has no visible trigger on its model.

When HL2 first came out you could hold mouse2 then mouse1 and then release both when you wanted to shoot. When you held the mouse buttons down it would 'charge' your shot, the longer the charge the more bullets you'd shoot out at once. This worked in multiplayer as well, being able to one shot anyone.
