I never played Dead Rising games. First one is like 10$ right now on PSN, is it worth it? What this game is like? And what about sequels, I heard there's something wrong going with the series.
>>
Played a little bit of the first one but not a ton, so I can't really say, but 2 and Off the Record are fucking great, my only problem with them on psn is that DR2 doesn't come with its dlc. But yeah just save up for 2 or Off the Record.
>>
1 is awesome, 2 and otr are really good too. 3 is where it all went to shit. 4 is weapons grade dog shit that should be avoided at all costs.
>>
>zombie shootter
what do you think?
>>
Yes, it's worth 10$. The sequels arent.
>>
>>384108987
>I heard there's something wrong going with the series
Yeah, none of them are as good as the first game.
Go look it up on Wikipedia or watch gameplay if you don't know what it is like. Or just buy it considering it is the best game Capcom has released.
>>
If you have a PC that is barely better than a toaster, then you can get DR2, DR2 Off the Record, and DR3 plus some Resident Evil games over Humble Bundle for 12 dollars at the moment.

Dead Rising 1 is fucking amazing, but very tough.
The atmosphere and story and all around feel will carry you through it though.
You can play Dead Rising 2 after since it's super fun, just expect a boring story but better gameplay.
Don't play the sequels they have a brand new team and they fucking ruin it.

This is objectively the best Dead Rising experience.

honestly you can start with 2 because its not as frustrating as the first one ie easier, once you get into the flow of dead rising games the first one is damn good. but defentaly play one, 2 and the non canon 2 off the record, and compared to 4 even dead rising 3 is good (not great), fun mindless games, cathartic
>>
>>384109427
Is there really no sprinting in the game? I got DR2 cheap a few years ago, and the controls plus being a slowpoke kidna weren't fun for me on PC (on top of having shitty GFWL back then)
>>
If I gotta choosd between 1 and 2 which one to get? Also, this game do have good replayability, right?
>>
>>384109793
Mix a cocktail called Quickstep or whatever it was called.
Frank is faster than Chuck when both have their speed stat maxed out, I think. Don't know for sure.
>>
>>384108987
1 and 2 is great.
3 is take it or leave it, but generally still a fun time.
4 is a real slog.

I think the studio that makes it is still in business, I hope they can turn it around because at this rate- things are going downhill pretty fast.
>>
>>384109793
when you level up in the game you get speed upgrades to run faster. also sprint is pretty pointless when you have access to vehicles, skateboards, and drinks.
>>
>>384109881
Get 1. They are designed to be replayed since your XP rolls over.
>>
>>384110014
Nice. Looks like a good purchase then.
>>
>>384109881
>Also, this game do have good replayability, right?

absolutely. chances are you wont find all the hidden stuff or save everyone your first time through, not to mention the extra game modes like 72 hour and infinity and level/xp carryover to a new game. dead rising 2 has a moddable infinity mode as well.
>>

I liked Dead rising 1 the best, the mood and atmospheer was just perfect, Dead rising 2 was also great but a lot sillier. Dead rising 3 is mediocre and Dead rising 4 is an abomination.

Dead Rising made me buy a 360

I don't care for the series in general, but if you must play one of them just go for 2. 3 & 4 are just outright terrible and the first one has a thousand little annoying things that will just drag the whole thing down for you.

2 was fucking trash though. 1 was fun because of all the unlockables and barring otis calling you every 2 seconds there was a shit ton more freedom. 2 was a mess of having significantly less freedom because of all the annoying time constraints and with less shit to unlock overall. Plus the story was fucking garbage. Maybe OTR was better I never played it. As someone who enjoyed 1 and replayed it a good 4-5 times after release 2 falls extremely flat, about as disappointing as tactics advanced was to the first final fantasy tactics on the PSX
>>
>>384112606
Same here, after playing it at a friend's house. No ragrets.
DR2 was ok-ish, but it was missing a lot of the charm and quality character models from the 1st.
>>
The boss themes in Dead Rising 2 have no right to be as good as they are.

>Maybe OTR was better I never played it
If you didn't like giving Katey zombrex you'll like OTR more probably, you still have to find the shit but you don't need to rush back to the safehouse.
>>
>>384113301
>but it was missing a lot of the charm and quality character models from the 1st.
Probably because Canadians did most do the work. They saw DR as a series that was about sex jokes and over-the-top gameplay. DR1 isn't that type of game. The original game is humble.
>>
>>384108987
The first dead rising is a classic for a reason, anon. The PC port of the HD release was actually good so I see zero reason why the PS4 version isn't also great. Buy it for 10 and have lots of fun.
As to what it's like, it's just fun. The only thing you won't like is babysitting survivors from one place to another, the gameplay is hilariously ridiculous and the story is good with well written characters.
>>
>>384113431
That wasnt my only issue with the game but it definitely helped. My biggest complaint was how much less replay-ability there was compared to the first because there was a lack of unlockables, which included shit like the megabuster and bonus game modes and I felt like there was nothing as cool as having cultists fuck up the mall or the swat team coming in. I didnt care for the psychopaths as much either

This isn't a Resident Evil Remake thread,
>>
>>384108987
The first one is a Resident Evil 4-tier masterpiece and probably one of the best games ever made. Don't listen to anybody who tells you the sequels are good. 2 isn't even an okay successor, it straight-up sucks in almost every way.
>>
>>384113481
Another Resident Evil, DMC, Castlevania outsourcing case.
I hope they stop doing that in the future. You start a series in-house, you fucking keep it in-house.
>>
>>384108987
Wait, PSN? I thought Dead Rising 1 was an Xbox exclusive and the vastly inferior sequels were all the Playstation got.

>>384108987
First one is the only one worth playing. Played the shit out of it when it got released on pc couple months ago, I had dr2 otr from a steam sale years ago and dropped it for the second time after a couple hours.

I think the first one is more tense, harder and has a better/mysterious story. Also best mall.
>>
>>384115581
Op isn't on master race
>>
>>384115725
>fun
Every boss fight is awfully designed, every basic weapon is complete garbage to force you to rely on combo-weapons which means that you'll spend 90% of the game using the two most convenient ones on everything, survivors are OP to the point where they need no supervision, new setting is hideous and boringly designed (central area is a giant empty corridor, casino areas look the same, mall segments look the same, essentially three different areas, horrible story after the fantastic first one, no more becoming a hand to hand powerhouse.

I really liked Dead Rising 2 when I first played it because it was so much easier than 1 but after playing 1 a bunch and finally mastering it and then moving onto 2 the disappointment is crushing. All of the refinement that makes the first game work is gone.
>>
>>384116021
ah, didnt notice, what a fag lol
>>
I don't get people saying 2 is bad, it just felt like DR1 but subjectively better or worse in certain aspects. Still a good game.

>>384115849

>>
>>384116261

>>
>>384116146
I don't know, to me it felt like the first game where I could just walk into an antique shop and be set.
>>
>>384116451
The first game wasn't half as bad, you at least had to find the antiques place and when inventory space is limited in the early game it's not that useful. Of course when you're at a high level you can grab 5 small chainsaws and orange juices and rip and tear but at that level if you're half decent at the game you can win no matter what you're carrying. The sequel forces its stupid spiked bat on you from the beginning to end by making it the most convenient weapon by far. For bosses you just grab an additional sword and/or an axe+hammer and fuck them up no problem. The first game's weapon placement worked well with its learning the mall and working within a schedule premise, if you know where stuff is and can work picking up good things into going to all the right places you can kick the games ass. Dead Rising 2 just dumps a pile of flaming dildo launchers on you every time you stop off behind a red door. Combo weapons were the killing blow for Dead Rising.
>>
>>384116689
Besides the lightsaber being OP as fuck I didn't really mind most of the combo weapons in 2. It feels like 3 is where they really started forcing whacky combo weapons.
>>
First ask yourself this;
Can you enjoy games with timers? Last thing I want is another dropkick crying "why timer!?" in the forums. Those people basically killed the series as a whole with their whining.
>>
>>384108987

>>
>>384108987
idk about you guys but i really hated this game when i first started playing when it came to steam. The Ai is so frustrating and i keep getting lost or killed as time progresses. There was even a point i just threw my controller and shut steam off when i failed at at the crazy 2nd amendment guys umpteen times.

So i kinda took a break and like literally a week later i went back but this time i didnt rush, i take it easy, explored the whole mall, learn the mechanics thoroughly (like mixing drinks, magazines, skateboarding) and got to what i believe is one of the few bad endings. Replay it and since im better leveled it became so much easier, it helped me saved even more folks, fought a few psychos which previously i missed and got better weapons and another different ending.

In short i feel really good about myself how i learn and adapt instead of giving it up. It kinda help me appriciate games like these where nowadays its such a rarity. I never felt so good accomplish something virtually in game like dead rising did

Yeah, there was definitely an adjustment period for me too. I missed a critical case and screwed the entire playthrough my first time but I didn't put it down. I just had fun in the mall until all the mysterious things I saw had me chomping at the bit to start the story over. Saving people and gearing up for survival exploration is addictive as hell. You just need to understand and appreciate all the freedoms given to you within the flow of the game.
>>
>>384113431
If you really don't give a fuck about Katey, you can still just ignore the Zombrex entirely and continue the game.
In OTR, you're completely forced to find Zombrex. If you don't inject yourself in time, you die and have to load last save.
Saying OTR did it better is nonsensical.

Here's a comparison.
Think of Postal and Postal 2, gems of 2000's PC gaming. Original Devs collab to a russian dev who has no fucking clue of what the fuck he is doing , wrecks shit and makes Postal 3, a game so bad the original devs actually give it for free to anyone who asks and fans joke that it was a bad dream.

Thats not even half of how much I hate DR4 and why Canada is a sin.

Hoo boy...

>Leads on the project had never worked on a Dead Rising game prior to this.
>Tried to nostalgia-bait by bringing back Frank West, who now looks, acts and sounds nothing like he did in the first two games, because the devs wanted a “more mature” character.
>TJ Rotolo (voice of Frank) wasn't even contacted to do the project. The devs just wanted a new guy who'd do it for cheap.
>Devs claim that DR4 is going back to its roots despite everything that's completely different about it.
>Devs don't know what's canon to franchise, and often get facts about DR1&2 wrong in cutscenes.
>Annoying, cunty sidekick character. Who bitches and moans, and constantly makes things worse.
>OP Combo-Weapons/Vehicles and Wacky Costumes are pushed to the forefront, even moreso than DR3.
>Cannot drop weapons quickly or throw them, you need to pull up the inventory to do so.
>Skill moves are now tied to kill-combos and can't be pulled off instantaneously
>Hand-to-hand combat is neutered, because the devs want to force you to use weapons.
>Survivors are no longer escortable characters/partners. You save them from zombies, they drop an OP weapon and they fuck off.
>Survivors are completely randomized NPCs. No memorable encounters.
>Every zombie you kill drops money, which you can use to purchase OP weapons and vehicles at the games many identical safe houses, effectively killing the need to scavenge for supplies.
>Food no longer takes up inventory space, and instead fills up a first-aid meter.
>No mixed drinks as a result of this.
>Despite food and books no longer requiring inventory space, the game gives you 24 item slots at max level.
>Item slots aren’t freely open, and can only be used to carry certain types of weapons
>Power Armor.
>Generic enemies in wacky costumes with combo weapons replace the psychopaths. They have no cutscenes, no unique AI and no defined character.

(1/2)
>>
>>384122472
>All generic human enemies and the not-psychopaths are dressed in full-body costumes to hide the fact that the modelers are lazy shitheads.
>Game has a total of 3 or 4 unique enemy AI patterns that are recycled ad infinitum.
>Zombies are no longer aggressive at night.
>Ridiculously easy, so much so that they had to add new modes with multiplied damage to give the illusion of difficulty.
>Timer has been completely removed from campaign
>Batman-vision "Investigation" segments
>Dr. Barnaby's "real" research, which takes him from being an amoral scientist to a fucking Captain Planet villain.
>Lacks multiple endings.
>Multiplayer is a shitty mission mode, no co-op campaign.
>Multiplayer doesn't feature any iconic DR characters.
>Devs actively made the game to have no replay value, openly shit-talked previous titles
>Map is actually smaller than DR3.
>Map is emptier than previous games and has little interactivity
>DLC season pass is a lazy weapon re-skin pack, a DLC story in the same map and a shitty minigame. $25 on top of the $60 for the game.
>The DLC story is overtime mode that got cut from the retail game.
>The DLC story can be completed in 30 minutes, 60 if you're a completionist.
>Overtime Mode has only two endings, determined by how many pointless collectibles you picked up.
>Zombie Frank has a total of 3 attacks, and cannot use weapons at all.
>No crossbuy between Xbox One & Windows 10, despite initially being advertised as such.
>Glitched to high-hell and back. Safe houses lose survivors at random. Models can't emulate human faces right. Progress randomly gets lost. Some game-breaking instances have been reported.

It's hilarious that in your blind hatred you guys genuinely believe Capcom being bought out is a good thing. They're either picked up by Tencent and every IP gets turned into mobage or MMOs with single player stuff shelved forever, or they get picked by one of the western mega publishers like EA or... yeah pretty much just EA.
