Yeah it is another example of a good idea that overextended itself and overall nobody gave a shit enough about to make a decent game about.

I think it's popularity has died down so much they are just letting anything and anyone make scp's nowadays.

Well, it's the one that kicked everything off. On top of that, it's a good example of short, sweet, to the point with just enough information to be sated but still wonder.

I just feel like the SCP Foundation has gotten way too mired in its own tropes. Nearly all of the powerful entities are actively hostile, every reality warper develops a god complex, very few articles actually show the Foundation making any meaningful breakthroughs or discoveries by holding all of these dangerous objects and entities, utility SCPs seem to be never used for anything despite having near infinite usefulness and the masturbatory self-insert characters have gotten increasingly stale as time goes on.

What's unfortunate is that a lot of people miss the point of scps and just go "muh spoopy creepy pastas q.q" . It's all manners of strangeness . Some of the most interesting scps are more or less completely harmless , like the hill that's a Mobius strip , or the tree that can grow anything . Well written STORIES. I miss that sometimes , not only from scp but from creepy pastas too

Portal turrets, pokeballs, that fucking wheelchair. Most of them got culled ages ago, but I guess a few are still around
Deagle is still the best -J
>>
Anyone feel that the newer SCPs are just shitty creepy pasta?

I read an SCP recently that had no essentially no containment procedures and little description but instead had a massive "exploration log" where a named agent enters a possible anomalous cave with only her partner and no MTF. It ends with some ~creepy scary~ body horror killing her partner and brainwashing her to fuck it.
And of course nothing was found of the team or the SCP but investigations are "on-going".

>>Unkillable lizard

I don't know how anyone could unironically like unkillable lizard. It's like a school yard tier playfight character.

>"NUH UH, HE CAN'T GET BURNED!"
>"NUH UH, ACID HEALS HIM!"
>"NUH UH, HE CAN PUT HIMSELF BACK TOGETHER IF YOU CUT HIM IN HALF!"

SCP-682-J breaks it down perfectly.

>>384115948
He's not as bad as the super OP SCPs that are pretty much edgy Gods. He's supposed to be the theoretical endpoint and answer to all the Mary Sue NPCs being tossed around. Just think of him as the Superman of SCP.
>>
>>384115948
The problem with 682 is that the author, who's a legit good writer, left it open for other people to add onto it. Originally, it was just a really angry fuckoff lizard that was super tough. A hard to kill lizard, obviously. Thanks to a comment about how the acids that they kept it bathed in had to be rotated and shit, people kept piling onto shit like that until it became fucking Kirby, and started absorbing and turning into whatever you threw at it.

Like a lot of shit on SCP, once it got popular it started getting a shitton of writers who didn't know what made it good in the first place
>>
>>384115948
It's appeal comes from it's interactions with other scps . It's fun to brainstorm ideas on how to kill something that can't be killed

It literally always has been like that
It's also actually more popular than ever and the real reason no good games come out of it is because the licensing is an unholy hellhole as each page's author keeps the license over his own writing

Would probably come out as a standard shooter where there's no point playing it after you've finished it once.
But imagine how good it could be if they didn't give a shit about mass market appeal.
>Multiplayer horror FPS/Simulation game with a heavy emphasis on teamwork, communication, and AI interaction. Think a less combat-heavy version of the SWAT games.
>Your team's objective is typically to secure the site, locate and identify the SCP, secure the SCP, and prevent civilian causalities and information leaks. And ofc, survive.
>Players have the ability to cordon off areas, fake hazards such as gas leaks, threaten and/or detain nosy civilies and journalists, administer amnesiacs, ect. An important element of play is keeping the naturally curious public at bay while locating and dealing with the SCP. The more information gets leaked by civies seeing things they shouldn't and getting away, or the more attention that is drawn from the SCP killing a lot of them, the harder it is to cover up and the less XP/Cash/points you get paid upon completing the mission.
>Good mix of SCP's. Some are innocuous objects that just have an effect on people who use them or are in their general area, which means the game becomes more about the squad keeping the public under control while figuring out what it is, and then extracting it without anyone getting hurt.
>Some are powerful combat SCP's that the team will have to survive against, in which case the game becomes more of a puzzle as to how to subdue or otherwise secure the SCP while fighting it and trying to keep it as far away from civilians during the firefight as possible.
>Some are building or large vehicle based SCP's that have to be explored and mapped, and some of them are going to have non-euclidean interiors. In this case it's survival horror, the SCP obviously kills people inside it somehow, so the team needs to figure out how and avoid getting picked off while mapping it out.

It's easier to prevent exposure to SCP or apply amnestics than letting people get killed and having to create huge and elaborate cover-up and applying even more amnestics to anyone who could possibly have any and slightest involvement with those who are dead.
>>
>>384117481
I was thinking fairly large maps, you're not going to be able to evacuate or kill several city blocks for one mysterious death unless the players create a falseflag reason to. And yeah, that was a little poorly worded. What loses points is exposure, not deaths. But an inordinately large amount of deaths that need to be explained or covered up is a form of exposure itself. There's no reason the players shouldn't just kill a particularly nosy reporter who keeps trying to sneak past their cordon, but taking out large amounts of people, or letting another witness see you kill one and escape or the like will cause exposure.

and not to mention that these days the 'names' of the SCP's no longer properly describe them, over half the time they seem to have no connection to the SCP themselves
SCP should never have left that folklore and legends phase of doing shit
>>
>>384118087
Absolutely. Point is the players would have the option, not that it's the only way. Loading out with some amnesiacs and giving them to the reporter would work just as well. Threatening them might work, it might just piss them off and make them more determined.

As for why they would get penalized when the foundation can cover that sort of thing up, the coverups take time and resources, which wouldn't have been necessary if the MTF team had secured the site properly instead of allowing the evidence or witness out in the first place. I suppose the point of it from the meta-perspective would be to add replayability. It's only a matter of time until you've played enough that you've done every level and every SCP at least once or twice each and know what to expect and how to deal with it, and even adding some random or procedural generated elements isn't going to do a lot to mitigate that. So once there's no surprises left in the game, at least you'd be able to replay the missions trying to get a perfect score with no exposure or at least do better then last time.

Go to the vending machine, ask for "concentrated kindness, calmness, thou shalt not kill" (and i'm not going to type all the possible ingredients as of now in the spur of the moment but pretty much "anything that defines somebody/thing as being a good, kind, harmless being"), ask for more and more of it till you have 5 or 6 682-HCl-tanks worth of it.
Drown the lizard in it, soak it to the bone and then the marrow and then the space between the smallest elementary particle the SCP "god" can tell you about and then go even further beyond.
If everything went right 682 should be harmless as a kitten.

If that doesn't work then see if you can fuck it up with mass Scranton Reality Anchors spam and the "witch" SCP (the one that can fuck with any reality within it's field of view) to make sure the "hippy-juice" kicks in with the force of a thousand fucks.

SCP isn't a super serious universe, it's steeped in a bit of sci-fi and horror cheesery.
>>
>>384116178
then clearly the solution is to make s game that is basically Not-SCP: the game
Especially since a lot of the early shit was just common concepts that has been done in multiple different unrelated shit(like for example the bookshelf that takes you physically into the book that was place into it, something that kills you when you don't look at it) and other ideas like that
>>
>>384124609
I think SCP has more lasting power than Welcome to Night Vale. While WtNV has a huge following, it became stale real quick once people realized that there wasn't really a 'main' story and of the stories given, most were just pretty shallow where the presentation was the only novel concept.

SCP isn't really an attempt at making a story or a narrative or even a consistent universe (despite all attempts at making it one). It's a platform for writing, albeit writing specifically about monsters.
>>
>>384124994
It definitely gets props for being the only good Apollyon SCP.
>>
>>384112471
They don't use them because using them always seems to fuck something else up. They'll experiment to an extent but how many fucked up alternate universes do you need to encounter where someone fucked with one the wrong way to go "we probably shouldn't use most of this shit".

You can't destroy them either for the most part since doing so also often has unintended consequences, like the GOC destroying that satellite only to find out it was harboring a cure for some kind of cancer or something.

but you know what media could SCP fit into?
A serie. An anthology serie.
Each episode focusing on 1 SCP in particulars. Seeing the SCP, in real life/CGI, seeing the experiment and getting spooked at home.

And it could also fit a book. You know, the usual, 1 page > One SCP and multiple edition ect.

It would be amazing.

Because by this point the lizard is a staple of the site, so now nothing will ever kill him. They went full meme with his unkillable status since everyone started throwing different shit at it to try and be the one to claim neutralizing it.

Everyone wanted to be the guy that killed it and so they had to keep going overboard on how unkillable it was. Basically it's the result of a bunch of faggots trying to outfaggot the original fag.

>>
>>384134803

Not really. It's fairly easy to understand anyway.

The SCP is some creature that loves information about itself and will take away anything that talks about it or describes it with words. If you see a picture of it and then write down its description on a piece of paper or something then it will appear and take away whatever you used to write its description on. If you describe it out loud then it will appear and take you away.

>In these mirror worlds at some point in the past some god-like entity appeared and told humanity that only those who were free of sin would be saved
>the way to decide who is free of sin would be decided by a fuck huge war and the survivors would be the winners
>entity grants them advanced technology to prepare for the war before fucking off and humanity splits into factions
>10 years pass and one of the factions find a way to make use of the entity's tears to give them an edge and win
>but it turns out when certain people are exposed to the tears they turn into the giant torso monsters
>monsters can be drawn to high concentrations of the tears and they use that to gather them in contaminated areas so the general public can still live at ease
>this stops working eventually and the monsters end up going around and absorbing people until humanity is wiped out
>>

>>384109976
>>384110750

> everyone pretending this is the worst one

> not "do not be taken alive"
>>
>>384135373
It's not actually a portal to Hell. The Foundation doesn't know what the fuck is behind that door, but they found out that religious belief bolsters morale and the resulting performance that they inscribed the door with the "satanic markings" themselves. The "need" for the bishops and shit is all just a ploy to get the personnel on board into a state of mind that makes success in keeping the door from closing more probable.

Which which SCP is best waifu
>>
>>384135398
Well the gist is that we're pretty much fucked and we can do nothing about it. Just being aware of it kills you how are you going to combat that?
In the story it was stated for example that there used to be hundreds of antimemetic divions or similar groups but now there are pretty much all gone because they became aware of it, got killed or worse and due to the antimemetic effect wiped out of existance. It's an all out war with like 99% casualties and no one is even awre of it. Ironically you could stop it too, you just need 8 years, a laboratory the size of a country and all the money of the world, but try starting a project like that when no one is even allowed to know wht this thing is for.
>>
>>384133118

>>
There was a way to uncover the hidden text in the SCP 231 text files through some pastebin type website, but I'm too lazy to figure that out so instead I'll copy paste what I found from /x/ which is the same poem:

seven seals, seven rings. seven brides for the scarlet King

they gather round the natal bed, the foolish and the wise. they fear the child yet to be born, whose voice shall rend the skies.

the faithful watch the forest for the coming of the King. their lanterns bright, they wait at night for the new world he shall bring

the dragon waits in shadows, his breath will scorch the land. the hero in the castle draws his sword and makes his stand

the princess in the tower is hidden far away. but nothing under heaven can keep The Groom at bay

they gather round with leering smiles, the soulless and the dead. though her soul unwinds, the cruelest minds will keep her in her bed.

the potter told his 'prentice to prepare him seven jars. six he made with grace and skill, the last his hands did mar

the cretin moon no more is howling, gone its mourning black. in their dreams its face is prowling, come to take them back.

the King is in his courting clothes, the brides are in their beds. the unborn princes wait in sleep to raise their eager heads.

the hens were in the henhouse and seven eggs did lay, till the fox crept in by dark of night and stole the eggs away.

six were broken by their bindings six no more shall sing. comes the seventh full unwinding and all the
bells will ring.

There's SCP sites for other regions like Japan and France that have completely different SCPs than the ones on the English site. >>
>>384136529
when the first had given birth, then all the birds did sing. her screaming cries did shake the skies, as she called out for her King.

by doctor's blade the second bade a life into the world. untimely hewn neath a silent moon, the King's red flag unfurled.

his bride the third remained unheard, her cries for help ignored. she stopped her life with a surgeon's knife, and gave it to Our Lord.

the fourth prepares a dagger and places it at her heart. the perfect cure cannot make pure what the King has set apart.

the fifth one's crown was bearing down upon the fox's set. the den was sundered with mighty thunder, an apocalypse beget.

on the sixth's day, the walls gave way, and the oceans turned to ash. her birth gave work, as the earth shook, underneath the King's fell lash

the seventh bride will break the tides the moon no more will shine. there comes a day not far away she'll birth the death of time.

Don't believe it when they say they're trying to save her. Why would they bother? They've got exactly what they want exactly where they want it.

the doctor never tells his god which one he really seeks. instead he hides himself away, and quietly, he weeps.

their god's own voice, he makes the choice, declaring with their word. "in fear and pain let her remain, lest she be like the third.

the doctor's gun ended his run, as he put it to his ear. as she was defiled, the pitied child, he gave it to his fear.

her memory a fickle thing, the strongest shall endure. when her weeping starts to waver, their drugs make her mind pure.

imagine youre the Tailed Fox squad searching for a breach, with the knowledge that a prior squad have been dispatched but lost contact. Through out the whole operation, you've read these symbols and trusted them, staying in the darkness, resting at proper places, etc. Then in a dark corridor where you know the prior team lost contact, instead of seeing the team, "lost contact" or even "dead operative", you see "symbols are compromised". What does that mean? it means you were led, you were followed, and the only thing you trust in the godforsaken place is now gone. Good luck with that

Each iteration of the phrase is hand-written via pen or pencil. Handwriting is inconsistent between iterations, suggesting each phrase was written down independently of the other (albeit in sequential order) over a substantial period of time.

It's not the world thats the problem, it's Keller. He's the SCP that destroys life. Its why he kills himself

I forget which one it is, but my favorite is the SCP who is allowed free roam of the facility. He's generally just a normal guy, and actually assists the research teams.

His thing is, at random times, he will instantly teleport to completely random dimensions.

they can't destroy it, there's no self destruct feature they can abuse and the thing is literally lightyears away and capable of moving at relativistic velocities
