Easily the best, since it had good matches and good character variety. Not to mention, Xiao Hai getting BTFO by a Daimon was the hypest shit ever.

Great character variety and a lack of the usual cancer made for a unique Top 8, but the amount of 3-0 sweeps detracted from the overall fun. At least Samitto provided some fun games.

SonicFox losing and HoneyBee's run made for some good matches, but due to it ultimately being won by a ruthless spammer, it wound up being boring.

The reason this isn't true is due to the horrible balance issues.

Yes there are different movement and weight types; such as the floater characters that get to enjoy being air-combod to death. And the fast fallers who much harder to combo.

And yes different moves do have different KO powers. But the good characters all have ko moves that are easy to connect with so it's not much of an issue.

And yes there are different stages. Some of them allow infinite combos, KOs that can happen insanely early, or random shit flying everywhere which can be impossible to avoid, or a million other things that makes them unfit for competative play.

And the character imbalance. My god. When I play against players worst than mean I can't pick Marth, it would be completly unfair. There's only a handful of good characters at the top.

From both personal and experience and watching tournament play. When lower tier characters "can win" it's at a tremendous disadvantage. You are going to see a lot of Fox winners, very few Gannondorfs.

If I'm playing a higher tier character against my friends I actually intionally play worst just so that there's a challenge. Like I'll go for riskier plays or dumb moves because I know if I play it safe I rarely loose.

It was what I'd call the most dull EVO top 8 in recent memory, sad to say. I don't play NRS enough to know what, but something went terribly wrong with this game (worse than Injustice 1 and previous MK9/X, anyway) that makes it fall to pieces in a competitibe environment. In the same vein as Overwatch, I'd say. A decent romp until a mid-high level and it nosedives from there on up.

Then we got some surprises like Dora actually making it there with Bang and showing himself to be just as great against Arakune players as he claimed, though he might have a hard time with Souji tomorrow, but that's less because of it being Arakune and more because of it being Souji. Nobody expected Tochigin with Azrael, and Takao is a surprise as well.
Really it was mostly the Top 32 that wasn't all that great because of just how many Arakune players were running around, but in the end, the only Arakune that made it out was Souji.

Yeah the transition is hard even with a character who primarily plays similar to his 2D counter part. Especially if you're coming from anime though. Movement tech is almost 100 percent grounded and remembering that you're playing on a 3D plane can be hard especially with how important sidesteps are. Also with how high damage 3D fighters tend to be one mistake can bring you from full health down to zero in only a couple of seconds. 3D games have been my main for 18 years now though so for me transitioning from 3D to anime in the mid 2000s was difficult.

Jack 7 is a super straight forward low execution character that relies heavily on playing defensively. Smash is the only good fighting game.

All other ones are button mashing and rhythm games played by pre-programmed automatons.

Smash requires creativity, intelligence and strategy.

It is the thinking man's fighting game, and far more hype, and _FAR_ higher skill required than the typical Fighting Game Cuckold (or FGCuck for short) fare.

This is also why smash has far more white players than most fighting games which are full of minorities

They've basically done that a few times with the smash summits.
Also all five gods had close sets at multiple points in the tournament to non gods, but as usual they have the clutch factor.
