Persona 3 still had the best battles in terms of actual difficulty and strategy needed. In P4 and P5 you can practically beat any boss with any group of characters if you have even mild awareness of the mechanics and are high enough level. In P3 you actually needed to do some planning for some bosses and make sure you took sensible party members and personas.

I would agree that the palaces are better gameplay definitely than Tartarus and TV world, but Mementos is definitely weaker than Tartarus by a large margin and TV world by a smaller one. Mementos is just one long ride in a van while Tartarus had party splits, floors with unusual numbers of monsters, treasures, and reaper encounter rates, and so on.

If you spent any time at all monitoring the tactics and adjusting them as needed this was no problem at all. If you want Aigis to punch them in the face, have her go all out attacking. If you want her to buff set her to support. Same for everyone else. It's not exactly rocket science. I literally got through the entire game without one instance of Marin Karin etc instead of healing someone almost dead by paying attention to the tactics button. A good half of each major battle was also just making the decision of who to bring in the first place too.

I set Cunt to Heal/Support and in two playthroughs she used a party-wide heal like 9 times total, preferring to heal in the most inefficent way possible. I've never seen her use Charmdi at all, ever.

the culmination of 3 and 4 in terms of gameplay. combat is the best it's going to be unless they go press turn, social links are interwoven into the gameplay in various ways and aren't just bonus EXPs. style and music so extravagant, nothing comes close.

Probably the one thing Persona 5 massively lacks. The loading icon say "Take your time" so I intentionally tried power-leveling my stats, since they are required for later game confidents/S-Links.

By the time I maxed my stats, 85% of the game was over. I'm not even joking. My confident rankings were a disaster, and I ended up with only two maxed confidents outside of the game appointed ones, since I tried doing them evenly.

It's a mess.
