i hated the original due to every character eventually developing the same due to identical boards, regardless of how you limited yourself, and i also hated IZJS because you only got 1 class, majority of which are fucking useless and boring and fall off 3/4 of the way through the game due to how they scale

2 jobs in this is actually a nice middle ground

shame it doesnt fix the fact that the combat is based entirely around auto attacking and gambits

all this game needed is chrono triggers battle system with positional based combo attacks

I really wish Square didn't bail on their "Ivalice Alliance" idea, where they would continue to make many games based off of Ivalice. They just sort of stopped after the 2 DS games (and they cancelled the sorta-FF12 sequel).

The "FFT and Vagrant Story are part of the same world as our upcoming games" thing was when they decided they wanted to do that "Ivalice Alliance" thing and have a sort of connected world between several of their games (which they sadly just sort of stopped later)

Knight gets a ton of attack power up.
Add the ability to use greatswords AND Katanas (which scale more with strength but also with magic) and you're looking at a murder machine.

Where do you get golden amulets now? Went to Mosphoran right after Raithwall and the merchant doesn't sell them like he did in the original release.

Knight/TM is also really good, and great for swords/greatsword. I think people looking at Knight/Bushi are planning to use katanas, and the jobs have perfect synergy for that.

Should be noted though that katanas were much better weapons than greatswords previously due to combos. Dunno if removing the damage cap has changed that, but I doubt it.

Also battle and magick lores don't stack. You only get the highest of the two jobs, so no real reason to put Bushi with a damage-dealing caster.

It's not that bad. The offensive casters have the issue in that they have a single job to do, and don't gain much from splicing in versatility. So you see RM/BM purely to give RM +50% damage to ardor via equipment that the RM otherwise couldn't wear.

RM/Archer + Monk/BM is a better setup, but also ends up narrowing down people's party choices pretty hard.

Instead, focus on unlocking all the passive abilities. Things like those HP bonuses might seem dull, but they make a big difference.

I kind of regret making Ashe a Red Mage/Black Mage.
Sure, that makes her a pure offensive caster with some versatility but now she has all the burden of doing those more niche spells while also having to cast offensive magic. RM/Archer seems like it would, indeed, have been a much better set up. Either that RM/Knight so I can have a tank that can cast utility spells like Decoy.

That's what first playthroughs are for, I suppose, to learn these things.

I feel like the main game is a bit easier but the Hunts are just as hard as before, if not a bit harder due to classes now.
I'm still in the early game so i cant say for sure but that's good news imo. Main game can be easy, so the casuals can have their story, the real meat of the game is the optional content.

an archer/redmange with Burning bow + fire arrows can be just as potent with Ardor and you can have a monk/black mage slinging spells too. There's no defense for lumping together similar jobs. Even Knight/Bushi which is being memed for its synergy is shit because it deprives you of being able to have a greatsword user and a katana user both on the field. Knight/Time mage and Bushi/Uhlan have just as much synergy as knight and bushi.

Tidus: Happy go lucky idiot with a infamous laughing scene. Also, his fourth wall breaking main character line of "this is my story" is a bit painful. But even with all of this, he still feels like a main character.
Honestly, while I don't hate him entirely, I feel like Bartz and Zidane did his style of character better.
Vaan however, is happy go lucky, but he lacks what made Tidus, Bartz, and Zidane likable. Actually being main characters with charisma. Then you look at the cast of characters:
Ashe, fallen princess who had a faked death, trying to rescue her country from the empire. Celes, while not a princess, fell into a similar situation, and many people debate over her being the main character in 6 for a good reason. Ashe could have been the main character of 12.
Or what about Basch? The entire story happens because of his twin brother. He also could have been the main character.
Or what about Balthier? Sure at first he seemed like he had no reason to be dedicated in the story, but then you see that his father is behind the empires weapons. A story of a thief going good because of a personal interest, just like Zidane. Balthier as well could have been the main character.
Really, I think I hate Vaan because not only does he not feel like the main character, but because his chest is stupid and he would look way better with a fucking shirt on.

Penelo and Ashe have the highest magic stats, and Ashe is known for having more strength so she can be given a second job for damage dealing. Also I think Fran has a decent magic stat as well. There is a general consensus that the guys have stats that lean more towards physical attack jobs, while the girls have stats that lean more towards magic. I've been hearing though that Vaan has stats that make him suitable for just about anything. Also a good thing to do for supportive magic jobs is to give them a job that deals damage that does not rely on the str stat, such as machinist. Of course unless its red mage, they can do good damage without counting on their second job.

I just got out of the mines and so far It's been fine with just having everyone smack enemies that get too close with their weapons while popping a potions/Cure when someone gets low on health. But I fear going forward I'll need to optimize stuff for more specific situations. Manually inputting commands for everyone makes battles move at a crawl.

Fran has no bad areas because all of her stats besides vit are right in the middle of the pack or is above average.

On another note, the only good Time Mage is Ashe because she has the highest natural strength and magic stats in the game and no penalties on crossbow animation speed. Everyone else who takes that job is either a hastega bot or requires a magic subjob because TM was one of the shittiest designed jobs in the game.
