One of my favourite games by far.

The wedding was so well built up that it actually felt sad when it was all done and over with.

The best thing about the game was that it had its moments when it knew it wanted a strong story, and other times when it knew not to take itself too seriously and just throw you some "fun" missions.

Really was a great game.

The unfortunate thing is that it does fall apart around the 80% or so mark of the story. It seems almost like they were rushed to just get it pushed to market and didn't think of a good enough ending for it.

But still fantastic.

The game wasn't that great though. Outside the main story missions, the gameplay was very bad and easy. The shooting was especially terrible, and lacked any real challenge, the AI also suffered. The side missions are just the same shit copy and pasted all over the map, they serve no other purpose other than to pad the length of the game, and with its repetitive and shallow gameplay, there's no real incentive to do it. The DLC is just another story altogether, it's so fucking awful. It has an awful story, which was the only thing going for this game, so now all you're left with is repetitive as fuck gameplay - probably because they wanted a quick cash in - and nothing to keep driving you forward to grind past its shitty gameplay.
This game is severely overrated, the only good thing it had going for it was the story. Everything else is shit.

I mean, the previous two games were wonky GTA knockoffs that didn't really do anything very well. Sleeping Dogs was some random open world game coming out in a very dry season, but managed to take lots of people by surprise.

The driving sucked ass so badly though.

The shooting was about comboing together headshots during the slowmo and you needed to drift more during the driving. The game didn't suck, you did.

I can understand the shooting to a degree, but the game was more focused on the hand to hand combat so I didn't really mind it. I was so happy to finally use a gun once I was introduced that I didn't really care about the generic third person point and shooty mechanics. Everything else you've complained about is pretty standard across the board as far as open world games go. The story was good tho.

I really like this game but in my multiple times playing it never really got too far in or finished it.

I have the definitive edition on my xbone and booted it up last night for the first time (I've played it on my PC and 360 previously).

Anyway instead of starting a new Main Story game I decided to see what Nightmare in Northpoint was. That's pretty fun and all but I realised playing it with a level 0 Wei might not be the best idea.

My question is am I supposed to play the main story first to level up Wei before playing either of the DLCs? Can he only level up and unlock perks etc. in main story?

Their only sin was being buggy as fuck. They are still somehow the best cop simulators to exist.

Nothing like arresting some criminals or straight up murdering them with the katana in your cop car's trunk and then going back to the department to pick up your paycheck so you can learn a wide variety of martial arts like Muay Thai, Karate, fucking Wushu and Taekwondo and more. A lot of the stores in NYC were enterable so you could buy some clothing or food.

Well there's 3 different trees. Cop, triad, and kung fu.

Basically just pick whichever one sounds more appealing. Go straight down the line, and then part way through the game you will be going down the other line. (For the Kung Fu statue thing it'll actually be roughly the halfway point as far as mission count goes, assuming you find all the statues)

the sun on yee and cops are both a part of Wei, so a "who will you fuck over" choice would really screw with the story in my opinion, but its been awhile so maybe i'm foggy on how he felt/pendrew/etc towards the end.

the sun on yee lady boss is the one who gave shen the tape of pendrew, and Mak and the other cops who aren't pendrew never really fucked him over. so a neutral end worked out i think.
though i do understand wanting to go all in on one side, just feels like a lot of the story would need to be changed(replacing lady boss with smile face lee etc?)

Seeing how he looked was surprising to me too, but I guess this was still not all that long ago(2012) so they probably did face scan for expressions and lip syncing(maybe even full mocap for all I know. all asian actors know kung fu right) so its more obvious in hindsight.

Then they can cast Will as Wei, as the police chief or something. Or at least make a cameo eating a pork bun.

One of the nice things about the game is that it's possible to complete missions with both maximum Cop and maximum Triad XP. You have to complete multiple objectives but none of them are mutually exclusive. IE You have to take out all enemy vehicles (triad) and not hit any civilian vehicles (cop).
