Cp2077 goes SIMS
>>
>>384028885
I'm a techie in my game right now. I build drones.
>>
>>384028885

Why this over Shadowrun?
Excluding magic basically making it "fun with a good GM"
>>
>>384029518
I'm president then, LOL.
>>
>>384029668
Third person over top down i guess.
Single character oriented over multi i guess.
>>

Journalist and credibility?
So it is a fantasy game now?
>>

Science FICTION.

I AM THE LAW
>>
>>384029834

No I mean world/ruleset wise.
Considering the SR games have all been huge bastardisations of the actual SR experience (with one mod for Dragonfall possibly being a better attempt than the main game though random gen runs maybe), I wouldn't expect much different for Cyberpunk if it's based on a pen and paper foundation.

>>384029961

"Journalist" isn't really strange a concept for a class - see Beyond Good and Evil; mostly breaking into places just to blow conspiracies up.

Rockstar though makes much less sense, probably leading riots and publicly declaring your raids for big support/exposure through media? Basically a loud heist version of Journalist.
>>
So, it's going to be an actual videogame and not a Visual Novel like the The Witcher series?

Count me in then.
>>
>>384030213
The highest expectation of my is to be Blade Runner the Game.
Most realistic expectation is to be fun enough and worth the wait.
>>
>>384030213
Rockstar makes sense. Basically a bard. You're inspiring the populace and influencing the culture of the world. Also you'll be of interest to anyone else who has these goals. Think media label
>>
>>384029668
>Why this over Shadowrun?

Because Shadowrun is a setting owned by a crappy company which is based around the notion of ridiculouseness and not cyberpunk?
Oh look, we've got orks and deamons and ponies and penis guns and shit.

I wish they'd put out some gameplay so I know what to expect from this game. I don't know shit about Cyberpunk stuff, bbut a big RPG with classes and shit makes me interested.
>>
>>384028885
wow cyberpunk 2077 goes cyberpunk
>>
>>384030780

afaik it's like VTMB: It's one of those pen and papers you probably enjoy with a good RP group because it relies on storytelling and shit.
In terms of adapting to video games, it's worse than most systems (assuming almost all pen and paper games adapt poorly because of the lack of competent GM involved).

Probably the best adapation I've seen is Neverwinter Nights and that's half the DM tools for UGC - it's okay otherwise, falls more towards Diablolike without the aforementioned GM to make sure you're not beating the "chosen one" path/the game itself too much with a linear story.

i don't even know why anyone would want to have classes in this game

so are you going to play a 200 hour rpg 7 times to see all the classes or what? i hate skills being blocked for me because i chose the wrong class before i even know how the game plays

i just wanted the witcher in a cyberpunk setting with added good gameplay, is that too much to ask for?

Can't wait to play this shit, even if it is Risen tier, I'll enjoy it because of the lack of that open world gta type cyberpunk games. I am aware of the problems the plague the genre but still, Shits pretty schway. Also, Netrunner or Corporate. Do my own version or Mr. Robot.

If it's well executed, it can work. See VTMB, which had unique writing for two specific races, and at least three different ways of tackling each issue.
>>
>>384031513
Hell yeah we do, everything that I found particularly fascinating about the genre as a child has come true. I live in that world, I literally could not have been born in a better time. I love everything about this era to a T.
>>
>>384028885
Kind of reminds me of WHFRP. Players rolled 1d100 and consulted a table during character creation for their "class". There were very few actual combat classes like wizard and fighter on it, and tons of stuff like quarry worker, farmer, butcher, dockhand, urchin, etc. It was pretty awesome because it was expected the first session, the GM would find a way to bring the players together and have them start developing into adventurer types, from which they inherited skills from their previous stations in life.

Of course, there were flaws too, like the ability to die or come out horribly maimed during character creation, but it was part of the charm.
>>
>For those unaware, the classes in the original Cyberpunk tabletop title are actually called “roles,” and if all of them are to implemented in Cyberpunk 2077, then there should be nine different character types in total from which to choose. Similar to the actual attributes they will contain, their names are a bit unorthodox, too, as the classes are Cop, Corporate, Fixer, Media, Netrunner, Nomad, Rockerboy, Solo, Techie, and Med-Tech, each with abilities unique to their role.

>Cop: Maximum lawmen on mean 21st century streets - Authority
>Corporate: Slick business raiders and multi-millionaires - Resources
>Fixer: Deal makers, smugglers, organizers, and information brokers - Streetdeal
>Media: Newsmen and reporters who go to the wall for the truth - Credibility
>Netrunner: Cybernetic computer hackers - Interface
>Nomad: Road warriors and gypsies who roam the highways - Family
>Rockerboy: Rebel rockers who use music and revolt to fight authority - Charismatic Leadership
>Solo: Hired assassins, bodyguards, killers, soldiers - Combat Sense
>Techie: Renegade mechanics - Jury Rig
>Med-Tech: Street doctors - Med-Tech

I'll be rolling Media.
>credibility
Lets skip the easy jeers.

I enjoy the blood hound-esque reporter archetype whose quarry is pursued beyond all common reason or sense of self-preservation. At the end of a trail filled with blood and betrayal, the man behind the curtain has played his final gambit...broken bodies and shorted automated defenses bleed and smoke, respectively, yet still you stand. He offers you wealth and power meant for no one man. You walk out of his compound with the camera/flash drive/file that will make the world stop and stare.

you'd also need a silent protagonist
especially if they also include the choice if you want to play as a male or female

i don't know i'd much rather have one predetermined character and the different classes should have been skill trees

>>
The way the classes are spread out in terms of competences and skills it looks like choosing one or the other could lock you out of a ton of quests (take med-tech vs solo for instance). Hopefully the will be a way around this.

I definitely do not want a character progression where you can become a hacker God end game if you start as a cop.
>>
>>384032110
>you'd also need a silent protagonist
Depends on how different the classes are. Cmnd. Shepard works. A soldier Shepard was the same as an adept Shepard outside of combat for better or worse.

>>384032030
We have augmented lolis. It's right around the corner.
>>
>>384028885
I can see the journalist being like an under equipped pseudo stealthy gonzo type with a radar for finding trouble to report on, but executive? How'd that work? Demand photos of Spiderman 2099?
>>
>>384032127
I'll still play it, fuck it. Nothing else in the genre I haven't played (meaning cyberpunk, rpg, action)

But holy fuck, if you aren't completely full of shit and know of something that exists or is better, elaborate. I need this.
>>
>>384032362
But then, "classes" doesn't mean "character creator". There could be just one character for all we know.
>>
>>384032369
Multiple playthroughs

or specific roles get unique branches. Like every has access to this side quest, but if you are X you get a whole other branch to do.
>>
>>384032337

i played it at pax and it played great it was hard as fuck though

i just hope it has enough variety and lenght
>>
In some old interview they said that game will focus heavily on your character and there will be strong emphasis on customization. For example robotic arm might look real but also like chrome or carbon fiber etc.
Wonder if they will keep this part of mechanics.

How multiplayer is it? I still can't figure it out. What a disappointment it would be if it was a light MMO or something. >If you live to rock, this is where you belong. Rockerboys are the street poets, social consciences and rebels of 2000's. With the advent of digital porta-studios and garage laser disk mastering, every Rocker with a message can take it to the street; put in the record stores, bounce it off the comsats.

>Sometimes, this message isn't something the Corporations or Government wants to hear. Sometimes what you say is going to get right in the faces of the powerful people who really run this world. But you don't care, because as a Rockerboy, you know it's your place to challenge, whether in straight-out protest songs that tell it like it is, or just by playing kick-ass rock'n'roll to get the people away from TV sets and into the Streets. You have a proud history as a Rockerboy - Dylan, Springsteen, Who, Elvis, the Stones - the legions of hardrock heroes who told the truth with screaming guitars and gut-honest lyrics.

>As a Rockerboy, you have the power to get the people up - to lead, inspire and inform. A song from you can give the timid courage, the weak strength, and blind vision. Rockerboy legends have led armies against Corporations and Governments. Rockerboy songs have exposed corruption, brought down dictators. It's a lot of power for a guy doing gigs every night in another city. But you can handle it. After all - you came to play!

>Why this over Shadowrun?
I love Shadowrun and contrary to those other fags think it's a great cyberpunk setting, and one of the very rare settings that mixes magic and tech in a way that's actually awesome and preserves the cyberpunk feel. But unfortunately the IP is just plain not being used for ambitious great vidya right now, the recent Returns games weren't terrible but even DF was A-tier and it showed. The gameplay was really limited. There is nothing wrong with wanting something way more ambitious and awesome in terms of cyberpunk, there's room for more then the super rare trickle we get.
>>
>>384029668
Cyberpunk 2077 is more grounded in pseudo-reality, whereas Shadowrun is more about the magicks and the departure from real life with metahumans and shit.

I'd argue that Cyberpunk is easier to make a good game out of, it's got clearer "rules," and tends to lend itself towards a real storyline rather than LOL DRAGUNS

>They're bending truth out there. And you're going to stop them. Someone has to do it. The Corporations rule the world. They dump toxics, destabilize economies and commit murder with equal impunity. The Government won't stop them - they own the Government. The only thing between the Corporations and world domination is the Media. And that's you.

>You've got a videocam and press pass - and you're not afraid to use them. You're a national figure, seen nightly on a million TV sets worldwide. You've got fans, contacts and your own Corporation backing you. They can't make you disappear. When you dig down for the dirt and slime the corrupt officials and Corporate lapdogs try to cover up, you can dig deep. The next morning, you can put the details of their crimes all over the screamsheets and vidscreens. Then the Government has to act.

>A week ago, you followed a hot lead and discovered a medical corporation dumping illegal drugs on the Street. This week, you're uncovered a secret Corporate war in South America - a war with jets, bombs, and cybertroops that's killed almost seven thousand innocent people. Each new story you get to the air is one more blow for freedom and justice. Not mention ratings.

>It isn't easy. They've tried to pressure your Mediacorp dozen of times. You've had stories suppressed - once, Corporate pressure forced them to cancel your news show. Each time, you went to the top, backed by your news director and crew, and fought to get the story out. Three of four times, they tried to kill you - that's why your backup's a crack Solo bodyguard and you've got one of the top Runners in the business digging through the Net to back your stories. You have to be good, or else.

>Your Runner's just phoned in with a hot lead. He's found a line on twenty tons of illegal weapons being shifted to a port in Bolivia - possibly nuclear. You grab your gear and flag your backup. You're going to break those bastards.

>This time, for sure.

>"At core, unless you have the meaning behind the black leather and the neon, you lose what cyberpunk is. That’s the problem with getting Cyberpunk made as a videogame; people don’t get it. They think it’s about action heroes quipping as they take down corporations.”

>"It’s about fighting for your piece of ground so you can have a life. Cyberpunk heroes aren’t trying to save the world, they’re trying to save themselves.”

>When it comes to games, he’s critical of Deus Ex, though not so much because of any specific aspect, but rather, I think, because it’s worryingly close to the game Cyberpunk might have become in the wrong hands. "I like a lot of the things that are going on there but the main characters are special because of the technology so it’s very far from street-level cyberpunk. The tech shouldn’t make you a hero, it should just be a part of ordinary life.”

>Credibility: This is the ability to be believed: by your viewers, by the police, by important and powerful people. This is critical to getting your story heard and acted upon, as well as convincing people to tell you things, give you information, or get you into where the story really happening. The higher your Credibility, the more people you can convince, and the easier it to convince high level authorities of the truth of your information. With level +3 Credibility, you can convince most people of minor scandals. With a level +5 or +6 you can convince local officials of military atrocities, undercover dealings and other front page stuff. At level +9, you can successfully expose a scandal of Watergate proportions, or convince the President of the EuroMarket Finance Board that aliens are secretly influencing world leaders. Credibility applies to ones intelligence.

The source material goes about describing non-combat classes that the game will be adopting and adapting. Makes me wonder about the degree of lethality that will be expected of the player, because most of these classes, if played on paper, shouldn't need to be packing more often than not. Certainly nothing greater than a pistol.

>Cyberpunk 2077 is more grounded in pseudo-reality, whereas Shadowrun is more about the magicks and the departure from real life with metahumans and shit.
I don't think that's really fair frankly, most cyberpunk stuff that goes beyond the very near future really isn't that grounded in reality, because reality sucks and is ever more unpredictable and antihuman. Classic core cyberpunk themes like being able to do all that crazy hacking and stuff often make absolutely zero sense IRL given how they present it, might as well be magic. It's hard to get realistically go forward very far before hitting Singularity territory, which is kind of the end of fun (or at least it gets super weird and impossible for humans to write very well). Shadowrun makes the magic part explicit and with its own system, but I don't think that detracts from its cyberpunk core one bit. It's still the classics of corp/techno control, tech altering humans (or demihumans for that matter), freedom vs safety, etc etc.

That said I don't mind non-magic cyberpunk one bit. But if CDP announced in 10 years that they'd gotten the Shadowrun license and intended to make a game there I wouldn't be mad.

>"Money. Yeah I got money: a new BMW aerodyne, and a penthouse flat in the Corporate Zone. All the money ain't worth frack. You play this game for power. The power to get things done; to make big decisions; to affect things. You make a phone call, and the next thing you know, you're telling the president of some bushleague Euronation that he'd better play it your way, or he's history. That's why you play. That's why I'm with the Company." -- An Unidentified Corporate.

>Resources: This represents the Corporate's ability to command corporation resources. It is used as a persuasion skill, based on the scale of resources requested. This could include bodyguards, weapons, vehicles, buildings, money, etc. Obviously, the more powerful the Corporate, the more he can call upon at any one time. Your level of Resources determines exactly how much you can request from the Corporation without overreaching yourself. A Resource ability rated at +2 might get you access to a Company car. An ability of +6 might allow you to use the Corporate Security Division. A Resources of +9 would allow you access to almost all levels of the Corporation, as well as the ability to requisition almost any Company resource. Ones Resource ability is based on intelligence.

I agree with you overall, but in all seriousness I actually think it might be kind of interesting to play a Cyberpunk setting game where you work for (possibly even coming to run) one of the megacorps and are playing the other side, destroying individualists, enhancing corporate control, indoctrination, unethical R&D, ordering corporate warfare and espionage, etc. Or maybe some sort of Sim/Empire game more, where you're are startup early on just on the cusp of cuberpunk and work to build into one of the top megacorps or find a niche. In the right hands that could be a pretty awesome inversion.

That said I'm not sure that would strictly appeal to /pol/ conformist egotistic conservatives EITHER, because the most successful mega players tend to be at least somewhat psychopathic and care about results. So in a twisted way they can be for "equality" by virtue of not caring much about humans period. If one of your employees is a gay transvestite but also happens to be really effective at black ops or assassination or R&D then a power hungry psychopath CEO wouldn't hesitate and single second to promote them. Any company that failed to do that would lose out to more ruthless corps that valued talent, success, and victory over all else.

>In the old days, they would have called you a yuppie - a hard driven, fast-track MBA on his way up the Corporate ladder. Sure, it's selling your soul to the Company, but face it; the Corporations rule the cyberpunk world. They control governments, markets, nations, armies - you name it. And you know that whoever controls the Corporations controls everything else.

>Right now, your life as a junior executive is anything but easy. There are guys underneath you who'd kill for a shot at your job. There are guys over you who'd kill to keep out of their jobs. And they're not kidding about the killing - every up and comer in the Corporation has his own crew of Solos and Netrunners to cover his pet projects. Sabotage? Constantly. Bribery? Routine. Blackmail? Common. Promotion by assassination? Always a possibility. The stakes are that high - one slip and you could be out on the Street with the rest of the trash. Or dead.

>And the projects your supervisors give you! Some are pretty straightforward; design a new productivity schedule for the Corporation's medical subsidiary. Some are pretty raw - send a "black operations" team into the City to spread a designer plague so the Marketing team can clean up selling the vaccine. Last week, you led a mixed team of Solos, 'Runners and Techies on a headhunting run to kidnap a researcher from a rival company. The week before, your project was to steal plans for a new suborbital shuttle from the EuroSpace Agency (so that the Aerospace Division could copy the design and sell it to the Soviets).

>You told yourself you joined the Corporation to make it better place - work from the inside, you said. But now you're not sure. Your ideals are a little tarnished and things are getting pretty bleak. But you can't worry about ethics now. Yeah, exactly. Neuromancer is inarguably the founder of "cyberpunk" as a known genre and it is definitely magic in terms of how stuff works there, even if it's not officially "magic" (I guess the phrase these days for that is "soft scifi"?, some /lit/fag would know). It's the themes it explores that have made it of lasting interest, not the details it uses to make it relatable to normalfags and fun to read.

Everyone will play anything in a RPG. It's the point: Taking the role of someone you created and live his life because you think it's badass. Being a cop in a cyberpunk world? Obvious evil, but hey, it's really cool to have my female character being part of the psychosquad and blowing every Cyberpsycho into piece. Which is what I'm trying to explain to you, something that is true, and also something that you are doggedly refusing to even engage because you're an ideologue shithead that refuses to actual use your fucking brain in favor of willful ignorance.

Cyberpunk 2020 P&P was easily the most fun i've had playing any type of game. The setting is really good too and is open to all types of adventures.

For people confused about roles, in 2020 they are your characters actual day-to-day job that you have to do and get promotions in. The mercenary work players get up to is usually done after-hours with people pulling contacts they have from work or using each others abilities to go through missions.

I was a cop for example and often fucked with the evidence whenever the bureau was investigating something we did. We had an executive who worked for a military corperation that could sometimes "lose" something for us. A fixer that got us jobs and sell our stolen shit and a Media person to spread misinformation about us to make us harder to pin down and increase our rep.

Unlikely they can pull this off in the game to such detail but I imagine if they are implementing roles you will have some kind of stuff you can do for money and perks related to your role.

Nothing to glamours. There was a 4-man job that needed doing and we each had our reason for being on that job. It went so well we decided to stick together.

The job was ambushing an exchange between two gangs, deliver the goods&money. Simple.

Executive was bored with his prince-like life ( executive of corperations are basically nobility ) gotten in a street fight one day and never felt more alive, decided to become an edgerunner to keep seeking that high and was put on the job for that.

Cop was investigating one of the gangs in question, took the job illegally to get info on this exchange.

Fixer found us the job and just wanted a cut.

Media person was investigating a story around a new combat drug and his leads led him to believe that might be the goods being exchanged at said job.

MAXIMUM LAWMAN is the only class for me.

https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2017/07/12/cyberpunk-2077-mike-pondsmith-interview/

>During my conversation with Mike Pondsmith, two people ask him to sign artwork from the Cyberpunk pen and paper game that he created. He tells me “it never stops being weird”, the fact that people want his autograph, but he gets it. Cyberpunk is cool, it’s rebellion, it’s sticking an augmented finger to the system. And it’s not just an aesthetic.

>“At core, unless you have the meaning behind the black leather and the neon, you lose what cyberpunk is. That’s the problem with getting Cyberpunk made as a videogame; people don’t get it. They think it’s about action heroes quipping as they take down corporations.” Over the years, Pondsmith has made deals with companies to bring Cyberpunk to PC but says he’s glad that those deals “crashed” because now the real deal has arrived. CD Projekt Red, the studio behind The Witcher and upcoming Cyberpunk 2077, “get it”. “They’re actual fans and they know stuff about Cyberpunk that I’ve forgotten.”

>The future’s looking bright then, even through the obligatory shades.

I'm genuinely curious how the hell the story is going to work with these classes.
Maybe it will be something like Dragon Age Origins where you have your own special prologue and quests here and there, but it seems it would be hard to have the same main quest when you can be on totally different sides of the spectrum as either a punk or a cop. Not really the same as your typical warrior/mage/rogue etc. builds.

That's what I was counting on really. Especially with the nomads it'd make sense to give them a prologue chapter explaining why they should go to Night City, after that they can weave it into a main plot line. Yeah, the roles are different from classes but cyberpunk plots are personal, so it might not matter that much which side you're on because it's ultimately not about the greater struggle but about you.

If you ask me, the least combat focused classes should rely on networking with other NPC's/mercs/etc... to be the muscle for them instead.

That's how I imagine the Rockerboy gets anything direct done with conflict, getting their roadies to do it for them.

It's impossible to have a game be as open as PnP is just by it's very nature, but I'd expect a lot of options in 2077. Of course, it'd be nice if they game us some more concrete info so we csn get a good idea of what we can actually do

Fuck man, I'm really looking forward to this one.
I hope when they start showing it off for real that they'll also be close to the final release. Sounded like the team was not happy about the two delays from tw3, so hopefully they learned their lesson. I'm still hoping for a 2018 release, although maybe that's too optimistic.

Prolly solo. They're the most heavily auged up with killer shit.
>>

The lesson to learn, is that if you want something's shit kicked in, you don't necessarily need to do it yourself.

Who held more power? The Solo? Or the fixer who geared him up, and sent him his way into the direction of his enemies? Or the hacker who told them all where and how to do it?

Solo is perhaps the least exciting concept without a lot of history built into the character regarding where he's been, and what he did.

That's what I was thinking. Since it looks like classes compliment each other, you could collaborate with others for jobs, and have NPCs supplied if playing offline. Each class would have their role in quests, and would get to see the story unfold through that lens. That could be an answer to the main quest problem people have been dealing with in this thread: the same story for all classes, but the role they play in the story is unique due to the collaboration aspect. They could take the good parts of Dark Souls' multiplayer system to a whole new level.
I hope it's a little impersonal though. Maybe instead of a normal chat system, you could only interact with dialogue options. That could help make the NPCs less jarring too.
I want to keep the feeling of an immersive single-player RPG instead of fast-paced team-based Overwatch garbage.

Because Microsoft owns still owns the Shadowrun IP and they'll be damned if they let anyone do anything with it other than make some relatively small RPGs.

It was still created within the context of criticizing runaway capitalism. It's showing you a vision of things that can go wrong if society goes down that path, that was a big part of Gibson's intent. The other part is that he just likes the aesthetic.

As someone who loved playing media in the tabletop game as much as cop the idea of it being handled this way gives me a massive boner.

I can only hope it's going to be great.
>>

There's difference between a work being dystopian and characters in it fighting the power and being rebels instead of just living in the setting because they're a part of it.

Journalist is based on Max Headroom, a guy fighting to get the truth out over the airwaves even as his corporate bosses try to shut him down and keep him away from it.

well in all honesty, this is a Tabletop roleplaying game they're adapting.

I for one would welcome some couch co-op or something.

Microsoft bought out FASA decades ago. It's why they also own MechWarrior.
>>
>>384049927
that's quite a nuanced stance you've taken
>>
>>384058257
Sure, but works of fiction are making political statements even when they aren't explicitly spelling it out to the audience via character actions. Many of the most prominent cyberpunk authors are outspoken leftists, including Gibson.

american "leftists"
>>
>>384058920
a lot of them are from the uk, and gibson is canadian.
>>
>>384058820
That's cool, but again, what does this have to do with the simple fact that cyberpunk doesn't have to be about people rebelling against the system, and often isn't?
>>
>>384059043
Cyberpunk is anti-capitalist by its very nature, even if individual protagonists are not.
>>
>>384058508
I knew they owned MechWarrior but not Shadowrun, that's ridiculous. Every Shadowrun game past the Genesis has been garbage, because the developers don't realize it's not entirely about shooting people, all the roleplaying, subterfuge, deception, etc. was stripped right out of every other shadowrun game that has been released ever since. I still have hope for Cyberpunk 2077 not being entirely combat-focused. I don't mind combat being there, even journalists have to get their hands dirty from time to time, but it shouldn't be 99% of the game.

Can we have a cyberpunk thread without politics please.
>>
>>384058508
Microsoft own's mechwarrior? Then what's the situation with PGI?
>>
>>384059418
the entire genre is political commentary, so no
>>
>>384059043
It doesn't have to be about rebelling about it, but the very presence of the setting is rebelling against the idea of runaway capitalism. Within that context, tons of different stories can occur, and that's why I'm excited about this game. We'll be able to play as a cop, a corporate, a freedom fighter, a rebel, etc. It's going to make for some amazing replays hopefully.

Cyberpunk is more than that, and I don't think it's much interested with providing alternative to itself, either through protagonists or otherwise. It's more about technology, more specifically information technology, changing every aspect of our lives. Not necessarily improving or worsening it, just changing. Remember that in Neuromancer megacorps do reign supreme, but they had to step in after a US/USSR war which didn't go all-out nuclear but was close to. So it's not like they ruined everything.

Well, judging by the flag from the game pic OP posted...

>he wants the government to control everything and monitor him at all times

wew, lads
corporations are literally good governments
>>
>>384059754
no one's saying it can't be more, but it will always have that root of anti-government, anti-corporate, general anti-authority beneath it. It's in the name.
>>
>>384059754

Though really a lot worsening

Oh boy it's like the Net Neutrality threads all over again.
>>

I'd think this was bait if I didn't know that people this stupid actually exist on this site.
>>
>>384059876
I think the goal is to have a balance of Corporations and governments sharing power.

Have too many corporations getting powerful and you get this cyberpunk setting, Get a government that is too powerful and you get the USSR and other government enslavement countries.
>>
>>384059920
It's in background, though. It's not a focus in Neuromancer. It doesn't have to be. And a name is just a name, in the end.

It's kind of weird about NN though. Those lines belong to the ISP and other companies. The government doesn't own them.

basically the government is telling you how you should use your own equipment in a non safety or ethic related matter.

The internet is classified a utility now, like electricity, or water pipes. So the government keeps an eye on them so they don't fuck around, and exploit a product that people see as necessary in today's world.
