You're also retarded. The first 3D Sonic game should be nothing but Sonic stages because you need to get Sonic's gameplay perfect before you start adding to it. With Adventure they half-assed Sonic so they could add 5 more half-assed characters. The transition from 2D to 3D is by itself enough innovation.

See: Donkey Kong 64 having five of them each with their own set of bullshit to collect, Banjo-Tooie letting you split up Banjo and Kazooie as individual characters and also including Mumbo Jumbo in the mix, Spyro: Year of the Dragon making you play as Spyro's animal friends, etc.
