Picked up System Shock 2 during the summer sale. Are there any good texture mods, that improve the resolution without altering the original art style of the game too much?

Yes. SHTUP, it updates textures. Also individual weapon skins can be found on systemshock dot org along with fan made missions and content such as gameplay mods, but save that for later. Some may recommend Rebirth, a mod that "updates" character models but it ruins the aesthetic.

Also I will give you tips: invest in hacking, get all weapons you find in dead enemies and unload the ammo. Have spare pistols in inventory if you need. Invest in maintenance, but you don't have to repair weapons until later if you stick with melee first and explore, good weapons can be found so you don't have to repair in the beginning.

Its a good game that nu-v hasn't played :^)
It was the time when Home of the Underdogs still had a download for this, but sadly I couldn't get it to work. I had to wait many years to finally play it, when I got new pc and found a working version of it. It was super awesome. Even finished BioShock 1 before playing this, and SS2 came my favorite game of all time.
First video I saw of it was this, from 10 years ago and it sucked me in immediately. The wait was worth it.
