What game are you putting off, anon?
>>
>>384019362
Im in chapter 3 of The Witcher 1, i started playing in late 2014. Get on my level.
>>
>>384023537
I played it for about 2 hours and couldn't take it anymore. I played witcher 2 and 3 for over 100 hours each
>>
I have never played Dark Souls, or any of the Souls games.

I don't get where do people get so much time for vidya.
>>
I was halfway through Bravely Default before I got sidetracked. BS came out and I bought it too. I don't know when I'm going to get back to it. This summer has been the summer of Final Fantasy and Nier so far.
>>
>>384023858
Same here, I have an entire list of games I still need to get to, and they just keep coming out faster than I can finish them. Doesn't help that I tend to like long RPGs.

Why do you do this? One of my friends bought so many games at launch and either never touched them or played it for a little bit the first day and went back to older games.

SO MUCH WASTED FUCKING MONEY.

>>
>>384028648
Exactly what I tell my friend. I still never buy games at launch but whatever his money, just actually play it when it comes out. He's gotten better at it too.

Hell if I didn't give a shit about money it'd be nice to be able to ride the hype train with everyone else when a major game releases instead of having to avoid threads because of spoilers so I'd feel more inclined to play it right away if I got it day one.

If the story matters (and it obviously does if you care about playing in any particular order) then the story should be experienced in the order intended by the author(s), which is usually release order. I'm not saying there are no exceptions, but prequels are typically written under the assumption that the audience is familiar with the story which chronologically follows the prequel. Sometimes a prequel can even spoil plot details of what comes "later" in the timeline, and in many other cases a prequel will simply make no sense to someone who is not familiar with the original story.

That makes sense, but on the other hand it could be that the prequel makes nods, but not require the sequel knowledge to be enjoyed and actualy helps your understanding and enjoyment of the sequel.
Ultimately what you just said could be used here as well:
>I'm not saying there are no exceptions
but after you finish both, you'll be better off having experienced them in timeline order.
>>

>>
>>384033009
Do you think the writers had the entire prequel story in mind when they made the story? They are retroactively pulling an origin out of their ass based off of the original release just like sequels. You are doing it wrong.

>>384034454
Yes, they are. But that doesn't mean they're unable to acomodate for the fact that there is already a chain of future events pre established.
Yes, sometimes you may get some spoilers or some shit, but more often than not the devs are also interested in making somewhat standalone products on account of people who are just jumping into the series, so it's not usualy something that will make or break your enjoyment.

Sp, in the interest of experiencing everything in a more logical and sensible way, I'd say playing in order is prefered, unless the sequel is old enough that playing it after would ruin your enjoyment too much, but that's purely a gameplay related concern.

Not him, but evolution of gameplay takes precedent over having a running narrative because these are video GAMES. Not to mention that prequels are made to benefit people who have been following a series, not as a new starting point. Take Yakuza 0 for example. A future antagonist makes a cameo appearance in the game with very little fanfare. A fan of the series goes "OH SHIT, IT'S GODA" while someone starting with the prequel likely isn't even registering that characters existence and then their reaction to seeing them a few games later is likely gonna be something like "oh, alright I guess".

>>

>Not him, but evolution of gameplay takes precedent over having a running narrative because these are video GAMES
I explicitely made this exception. So yeah, agreed.

>Not to mention that prequels are made to benefit people who have been following a series
It may happen, but as I also said, unless it's someone like Kojima, devs are terrified about ostracizing potential newcomers so they'd probably not put things that would ruin the experience of people just coming in.

There IS an argument to be made about playing in release order. I just think it's more advantageous and makes more sense to do timeline order so long it won't interfere with the gameplay related enjoyment, like if the sequel came years and years later for example.

When you're working it sounds great. After 2 weeks it feels terrible. Personally I think that only has to do with societal norms though. People who REALLY don't give a shit(very very rare) probably really do enjoy it.
