They're aiming for a Hyrule Warriors approach for this series. Problem with that is Fire Emblem series has a ton a characters to work with from 14 games, all with their dedicated fans. With Zelda, this isn't much a case and its relatively easy to narrow down the focus to three cause Ocarina, Twilight, and even Skyward were loved by Zelda fans. They later added Wind Waker, and Majora which essentially brought together most of the Zelda fans of the series aren't picky about the characters chosen and OCs like Lana and CIA were done a lot better than expected and were surprisingly fun to use.

Now contrast that with this game, its a total downgrade from Hyrule Warriors. When you're working with a series that has a ton of characters like Fire Emblem, you ought to make sure more characters are represented in the game so you can have the majority of FE fans buy this game. So far, this game is only catering to new FE fans with Awakening and Fates. Shadow Dragon nobody cares about that outside of the trademark mascots Marth and Tiki. Genealogy, Binding Blade, Blazing Sword, Sacred Stones and even Path of Radiance/Radiant Dawn all have fans that could potentially have bought this game if they included at character or two from their series. By excluding all of those series and not throwing in enough knockbacks that pay homage to the franchise, it will be poorly received. Don't expect this title to sell well, even

The DLC Pack for Hyrule Warriors wasn't as bad as it is for other games but you're right, it was a dick move of Koei/Nintendo not to add DLC to the Wii U version of the game adding all the features of the 3DS counterpart. Why the fuck kind of stupid argument is this "sword lord" bullshit?

They limited it to three games because of this but decided to add 3/4 of Fire Emblem's Falchion users, both of the ugly OCs have the same sword, and Xander, Ryoma, and Corrin who all have swords. There are literally only 3 characters so far that don't use swords.

Not to mention that this wouldn't even be a problem if every sword lord got a unique move set which they should. Lyn and Ike are both swords lords but they don't fight the same at all. And there were plenty of non sword lords to choose from like Ephraim, Hector, and Micaiah.

They just started development for this game when they were out of touch with what characters people actually liked.
