Nier actually sold just as much or more than Persona 5 did. I'm not trying to start a flame war because I love both games, but it's still insanely popular and has been among steam top sellers for months now.

P4 is a silly anime game, what you need to understand is that people that adored silly anime games flocked to jrpgs in droves around the time P4 came out and moeshit populated the market.
P4 is the worst easily. It has a far worse story and characters, but the thing that makes it stand out is that you can almost see the exact moment the developers realized that this was the case and chose instead of make a bunch of slice of life anime events the main focus of the game so it would sell to said market. So the people that ate the shit out of this were expecting more of that from P5 which instead had some self respect and told its story that only lazy reductionism can take a shit on. And further, it actually correctly assumed that the audience was retarded at certain points in the game, and I shouldn't have to explain why that wouldn't fly well with any of said people.

Have you never played a Persona game? It's actually not shallow fapbait, the characters are actually well written and the character interaction is always great regardless of how interesting or generic the plot can be at times. If anything SMT with all of its more scantily clad semen demons is more of a fapbait game then Persona, but it's designed that way because it focuses more on in depth gameplay while Persona focuses more on style and characters.
