It's one of the most important moments in the series and the combine suddenly decided to call it quits and send only a bunch of meme striders instead of their whole force in the actual game, not trailers.
Watching Valve trailers is a bad idea if you want to avoid getting hyped for nothing, I think only Kojima topped them with MGS5.

The game gives you the habit of jumping at perches like that from the side. The solution is that instead you just do a simple jump upwards right in front of it to grab it and climb up. There's only a handful of ways to go up towards it so I don't really get how people could get stuck there "for an hour."

Still, the issue with it is that anything resembling that layout anywhere else in the game would let you wallrun up from below it and then grab it, or as most people probably tried first, jumping straight from the railing and hoping you could grab onto it.

I've just finished Revelations. The plataforming levels are really pretty, and definitely my favorite part of the game (the caverns you fall into after a crane breaks, one where you chase templars on a boat, the Water Temple-lite under the lighthouse, and the optional one in Hagia Sophia).
But, they all have too much handholding, with the camera facing your path, and also tutorial messages popping up. They feel more like QTEs.
3 out of 4 also have time limits, encouraging the player to rush instead of taking a moment to see the scenario.
