MGS3 is the only one ever worth replaying.
MGS2 has an interesting twist, but the gameplay sucks and the body of the story is just bad. MGS1 is worth playing once to set your expectations for MGS2 but its gameplay is even worse than MG2.

I still appreciate V though. It's an oddly fitting game to end the series with, with that title and how it leaves the player with a dull void. Kojima couldn't switch to something else (and he probably assumed he had a blank cheque forever) so Konami pulled out the rug from under him, and it was done in such a way that even the most die-hard fans of the series kind of accepted it.

Silent Hills felt like a bigger blow.

mgs 4 is the worst just because it destroys everything that mgs 2 did

Regarding 4, you're missing out on a thoroughly engaging game start to finish. Best combined stealth and combat mechanics in the series. How you'd feel by the end of it depends on your ability to put things into perspective.

It's goofy as hell, but as a game it's the complete package and it achieves its aim of tying all the loose ends of the entire saga thus far together - for better or worse.

Peace Walker is MGSV for people who also love Minecraft.

PW is essentially what V is, which is part of the reason V pisses me off so much at times. It dumbed down stealth, dumbed down CQC, dumbed down interrogations, dumbed down many things. PW is by far the worst MG if you ignore the spin-offs and Portable Ops.

MGS4 is the culmination of the story that started with MGS2, I really think it's a special game. That final boss is one of the best in gaming. The nostalgia level is through the roof.

I actually think MGS3 was a mistake. Maybe not MGS3 itself, it was a great game, but then the attempt to directly link it with MG1 and then basically override the world of MGS1 and 2 and run the series into a closed loop, dead end.

I'd have been more interested in them leaving a lot of the past mythos alone and exploring the future world on it's own merit, not just basically going "lol superbaddies from the 70s who where conventienly quiet for Shadow Moses and Big Shell"

Which arguably makes it great. Arguably. I still think that in 5 years, after MGS as written by Kojimber has been buried, people will change how they see TPP and start revering it, much like what happened with MGS2.

The best MGS is the theoretical MGS1 remake that uses the same controls and mechanics as MGSV and plays like GZ but longer, manages to perfectly capture the atmosphere of Shadow Moses with a remastered soundtrack and top-tier VO from a new cast (since there's no point in the old voice actors trying to recapture their old performances.) The only downside is it only exists in the dreams of our broken hearts.

This, what MGSV did is unique. Not other games have extended the theme of the game to real life how TPP did. At the end of the game you can feel the loss, you feel betrayed and you hope for peace day too come.

For me it was the other way around. Though that's because my first playthrough was on the PSP and my second and third was on the PS3.

The game is made for a portable through and through. It's just kinda tedious in longer sessions but if you just pop in and play a mission or two while on the go it's great. Well apart from the boss battles which are about as anti-portable as you can get.

A large collections of the highlights in the series are found in MGS2. Specifically the end in Arsenal Gear. MGS2 also has some of the stupidest moments, and a legendarily bullshit escort sequence that /v/ seems to have forgotten.

So imo MGS2 is the most MGS game. But in terms of fun and games I want to revisit

MGS3> Ground Zeros> MGS1> MGSV> MGS2

I would not play MGS4 again. It is one of the worst films I've ever sat through, with aggressively poor chunks of gameplay.
