>not playing OG system shock

The Enhanced edition makes this game fucking incredible, definitely the best of the lot when it comes to old ass shooters.

>dem insanely huge levels with an open world similar to metroid or dark souls
>dat plot
>dem powers and abilities you get
>SHODAN is cool as fuck
>basically Doom meets Super Metroid meets I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream

It's insane how well this game has aged.

I can't wrap my head around the retarded controls and lack of proper widescreen.
Widescreen in EE literally just cuts off top and bottom of the screen so you see LESS.
The controls force you to keep switching between Point'n'Click and First Person Shooter types which is bonkers.
Fuck this cancer of a """game""".

Yes negro. The Enhanced edition only adds mouselook and ups the texture resolution.

The exploration, plot, power mechanics and execution are all top tier.

>>383997006
I don't have any issues with the controls on EE. The point and click shit is just a relic of the past, they couldn't have gotten ALL modern mechanics to be right from the get go.
>>
>>383997006
also

>calling system shock cancer

literally kys you fucking toddler
>>
>>383997183
It's not just controls.
The UI is cancer.
The map/level design is cancer.
The game is pure fucking cancer.
>>
Own it, tried it, it's shit
>>
>>383997275
>a game that innovated mechanics that nearly all modern games use today

>being this much of a history ignorant little shit

just die m8. Do the world a favor.

>>383996506
and then system shock 2 came along and ruined everything with shitty rpg elements and generic space horror

>/v/ proves it has fucking terrible taste once again

I guess it's not surprising since the average age on this board is 15.

>>383997482
Wouldn't say ruined it. It's a pretty great game as well.
>>
>>383997183
>wow dude have you seen the 4K bluray of Lawrence of Arabia? It's incredible how well it's hold up, who knew they had 4K films in the 60's!
>>
>>383998775
>missing the point completely
>being this retarded
>>
>>383998775
>who knew they had 4K films in the 60's!
They did anon.
35mm film reel is more or less equivalent to 4K resolution in digital in terms of amount of detail it holds.
And 70mm is equivalent to 8K based on the same principle of amount of detail it can hold.
It's also why anything filmed with a 16mm camera (generally TV stuff and cheaper movies) don't have 4K Blurays and if they do, they're just shitty upscales because 16mm film can't do that kind of detail. Quite often the Blurays aren't even 1080p, but 1080i or 720p for 16mm stuff.
>>
>>383999024
wow, you're an even bigger retard than OP.
>>
>>383999141
>ad hominem
>no counter arguments
The only one here is (You), it's your last by the way. I should've known better than to reply seriously to a random shitposter.
>>
>>383998775
>the only thing that matters is resolution

Goddamn you're a special kind of stupid. Think for five fucking seconds about the elements that make up a game (or a movie in your retarded analogy). It's sure as shit more than the amount of pixels.
>>
>>383999243
>OP argues a game -that has been enhanced in post in recent years- to hold up well to modern standards.
>You go on a completely irrelevant rant on film negatives
The one that is stupid is you, these are embarrassing times for you, idiot.
>>
>>383997183
>and ups the texture resolution.

no it doesn't

the textures are the same as the original

it just lets you play the game itself at higher resolutions
>>
I recently played it as well and I agree that it is amazing. One of the best games all time I think.

Fuck invisible mutants on level 3 though, god damn. That respawn rate is wack.
>>
wtf i played it 10 min ago
>>
>>383999434
Not him but it's your fault for making a retarded analogy that fell apart under scrutiny.
>>
>>383999476
And they take a bunch of hornet rounds to take down too, it's annoying.

>>383999639
did you rike it?
>>
>>383999476
the laser rapier is on the same floor and that fucks them up in 2 hits but even then that floor is still tedious as fuck because of how fast they respawn

Can I just say how nice the whole space station feels? I really like how much room you're given to explore, and the colors used in say floor 1 or 2 are so nice and not generic looking. It could've all just been brown and I'm glad it's not.
>>
>>384000659
the fact that system shock 1 isn't a horror game helps a lot

its a colorful manic cyberpunk game
>>
>>384000863
I think the main thing that ruins the potentially scary atmosphere is the music. It's really goddamn funky and weird. Level 3 just has creepy ambiance and the game turns freaky and spooky immediately. I wish someone would redo the soundtrack or something.
>>
I played it a while ago and enjoyed it but got really annoyed with a few things. On the first level I somehow cleared 99% of it and couldn't find the uncleared spot that was the only part I needed to go to to advance the game, took me like an hour to find it. And those invisible respawning enemies can just go away. The final boss fight was also weird and kind of bad. Might play it again soon though since I just recently replayed SS2.

>>384000975
Similar thing with SS2. The music is good and it kind of fits later in the game when you're stronger, but earlier in the game it seems off. You're fairly weak on a ship with mind-controlled mutants trying to kill you and there's this loud, fast techno music playing.
>>
>>384001335
I never did find the very last camera to lower the security level to 0% in level 1. And yeah, because the game is so massive you can get lost somewhat easily. I actually like the gunplay a lot, it's on par with doom.

SS2's soundtrack is way more fitting SS1's, though.
>>
>>384000975
ss1 not being a horror game is a good thing

>>384001543
you gotta remember to mark shit on the map
>>
>>384001649
I dunno man. It seems like the game goes hard for the horror theme and the music just blows it.
>>
Alright so I just downloaded this.
Any tips?
>>
>>384002794
You play the fucking game you absolute spastic cunt.
>>
>>384003047
Well at least it wasn't false info.
>>
does it have ranked online play?
>>
>>384001696
you can find rocket skates
>>
>>383999024
70mm would be 16K then, wouldn't it
>>
>>384002794
Yeah. Save your medi patches from floor 1 as much as possible.

What was your spookiest moment in-game?

>clear out floor 1
>ready to ride to level 2 in a comfy elevator
>ride literally takes 2 seconds, the door opens to a literal horde of mutants pouring into the elevator
>nope'd the fuck out and tried to get back to level 1
>"the elevator can't proceed because the door is still open"

>mfw
>>
>>383996506
Should I buy it off Steam or GOG?
>>
>>384003859
whichever, but if you buy it on steam make sure it's the enhanced version.
>>
>>384003841
that part made me happy cause you can just use a berserk pack and go to town

>>
>>384004000
the only one you can buy is the enhanced version

BUT

it adds both the enhanced version and the original version to your steam library

so for some reason if you want to play the shitty version in dosbox, then you have that option
