Okami nails the sort of thing that Nintendo usually succeeds at: providing creative play. You have a bunch of "brush powers" that can interact with the world. Usually with applications in puzzle solving, combat and messing with npcs or the environment.

Unlike most games, the plot structure is like classical epic with multiple, almost separate, stories. It feels more like the continuing adventures of Ameratsu and Issun rather than Ameratsu vs the big bad.

It also had that Kamiya attitude to it, although with a more reserved tone than some of his other games.

And the music and visuals are unique and lovely as you might expect.
