I just personally like it the best. It's the Bloodborne to King's Fields' Dark Souls. Darker atmosphere, weirder at that. The systems with sacrificing your weapons to make your stats more powerful and vice versa is really interesting even if it can lead to you permanently fucking yourself. Also I played it in Japanese without a guide so it helped to give it a nice alien atmosphere. Basically if you like the more exploration, atmosphere and puzzle-solving aspects of Kings Field over the more combat-focused Souls, then this game is great. along with The Ancient City and the Souls series, which I also like.

Bloodborne is far too simplified to be a the greatest and the way most of the interesting weapons are tacked on in the DLC is unsatisfying.

dark souls 1 is a half-finished game viewed through rose-tinted glasses. bloodborne is leagues better than DaS1. DaS1 is barely better than DeS mechanically, and half the people who argue it use >muh open world as if open world is a definitive positive and not a means to make the player walk 8 minutes through emptiness just to find a key item.

fun fact: the old hunters is a redo of the original storyline for bloodborne

originally, the whole game world was actually the hunter's nightmare, and this secret was hidden within the astral clocktower, which led to the fishing hamlet in the sky. the nightmare was kept going through the malice of the formless oedon, aka the dead child of kos.
