Heavy characters = top speed. If you manage your items right, dont crash or go offcourse you won't slow down a bit. By the second lap you'll be way ahead of everyone the only way for them to catch on is to get blue shell'd followed by a ton of red shells.

200cc is different, though. You generally want more acceleration and handling for that.
