I haven't played much DQ. I'm assuming it's the same as FF but I didn't like VIII much.

13-3 is actually VERY different from both 13 and 13-2's combat

its a more action based type of gameplay and mostly with just Lightning and no other party members

if you like pseudo turnbased/action type gameplay for battles its good, story is pretty bad/convoluted but i really enjoyed it overall

Because at its core FF2 is frustrating. Everything in the game ended up frustrating me one way or another.

Made my peace with it after playing it through again at some point. Without any kind of expectation behind it the game is.... still annoying and has glaring problems, but you start to find things kinda enjoyable.
Wouldn't want to replay it another time but it's an ok playthrough. Wish they would remove the first hour or so though.

Now to answer your question, the game it self can be easily broken what with the draw system and keeping one character lower level and what not. Story wise is very weeaboo focused with highschool drama and uses some silly plot near the end saying they all went to the same orphanage but they never remembered. Aside from that little stint Characters have little defining trates and even can be replaced. Now when I say characters with little or no traits I mean we get some focus on them but then it dissappears 10 minutes later.

Just because it was a straight up action game doesn't make it inherently bad. Mercs mode was more than good enough to make up for the lackluster campaigns. Gameplay was fucking solid and actually felt unique compared to most other 3rd person shooters. Felt more like Vanquish than anything else.
