I'm playing Dark Souls for the first time (Prepare to Die Edition on ps3 if it matters) and I'd heard a lot about this fight as being extremely tough. But I just killed them first attempt. I'm not bragging about my skills, I died tons to other stuff, but this boss was super easy.
The heavy attack from my sword staggered them out of any attack they attempted, even the big guy, all I needed to do was hit R2 as he wound up to stop him from attacking, hit R2 for extra damage then run away to regain stamina. I only used 3 Estus for the whole fight.
Was it a fluke?
Was I overpowered (level 50 with a +5 Divine "Sword-that-starts-with-Z")
Or is their difficulty just a meme?

See, the mistake you're probably making is you're not playing blind. With a +5 holy zwei, you're way over geared for that fight.

Fight's always been about crowd control and little else. If you're generally good at that, the fight's a breeze.

Is it though? I haven't upgraded my weapon in forever because none of the blacksmiths would let me. I was hoping the so called City of the Gods would have upgrade mats for holy weapons but I still can't go past +5, which I've been stuck at forever.
I'm also playing as blind as I can, I'm not looking anything up, but there's some stuff I've just subconsciously absorbed by browsing /v/ and other gaming media.
