The creator left after Suikoden III. The sequel (and every game after it) pretty much lost everything Suikoden did well.

The only thing that makes it a Suikoden game is the name and having runes. They could have called it a different name and no one would really notice it was a Suikoden game.

The game has a working campaign in mid development now. It's no longer minimal engine changes every other week like during the past several years.

It's stupidly late, sure, because the devs were too arrogant and thought starting a full 3D game from scratch with a three man team was a good idea, but at least now it's going to be released.

I really like the overgrowth team, David Rosen gave an awesome talk on procedural animation at GDC a few years ago, his approach to making games is pretty awesome in general.

No, it really wasn't. But I'm not gonna go into the huge list of problems it has because it always spawns that one Suikoden V defender. Suffice to say, it just tried to imitate Suikoden II. And that's what it ended up being. A game that felt like it was trying to be something better. Much like the latest Star Wars just feels like 'What JJ Abrams would do if he made A New Hope'.

Pretty sad really. I get why they tried what they tried, but it just doesn't work. I guess the game could still be good, but I kinda doubt it at this point.
