It had amazing polish and production values. We'll likely never see another Sonic game with it's budget. The daytime levels felt really energized and upbeat, the WOOH sound Sonic would make occasionally made him feel a little more alive. The night time stages are the worst part of the game but they're still completely functional and had amazing atmosphere and music when not interrupted every time a battle starts. The story and tone had a nice balance, it took itself just seriously enough, and then Colors came with the baldy mcnosehair shit.

360/PS3 version was the best.
The other ones are shit.
