Crash 3 has so many bad levels. The Tiger levels are worse then the Bear levels in 2. The flying and racing levels are literally beta tier levels. The water levels are wonky.

Crash 2 has 4-5 level types and they almost all felt great and better bosses.

Speaking from personal experience it did some things right like the new Exp system which rewarded having a new team and made the game more challenging.

The biggest problem with BW is how story oriented it was, Pokémon games always had a story going on with the road blocks forcing you to finish tasks before moving to the next city to gain the gym badge, there was always this illusion of the games not being linear but BW was too obvious about it (the region is a literal circle) and didn't rewarded the player for exploration enough until the postgame where they leave you alone, it creates this predictable cycle of entering a new location just to be hijacked by a NPC either because tutorial or story

Being story oriented also fucked with its replay value and it relies too much on the player feeling invested on team plasma's motivation (the whole "release your pokémon thing"), if the player already knows the story or doesn't give a shit he/she will want to skip the text but because the game has so much story going on (read:non tutorial text) it becomes really awful, and when its not N with the intelectual shit its one of your two notrivals interrupting your journey to fight, tutorials or fighting grunts who use route 1 shitmon

Remember that BW was supposed to be a fresh new start so its obvious they would want to start from scratch with the tutorials, in the previous gen the only instance I can remember of someone explaining the type triangle was this one NPC in Oreburgh (I am sure there are more), its just a very odd and specific choice for a puzzle that would make sense if you considered what I mentioned before

As for the battle item part, I was talking about the second gym where the town introduces the battle items (NPCs talking about it, they even include a little shop) and the fact that the gym leader specializes on normal so the player is less likely to rely on the obvious type advantage (basically imagine a little kid getting their ass kicked by the leader's ace and needing to use the battle item), them again they do give you a local fighting type you can capture and just rock smash your way to victory so that is a stretch

There has never been a good Crash game.

as far as platforming goes they're only boring maybe at the start, the more you go the tighter it gets, with plenty of passages where 1 mistake/bad timing will fuck you over. and that's not even mentioning the "secret"/challenge stuff. you just probably never got past the crab boss in 3 and got assblasted.

I go into classic platformer games expecting good platformers. DKC games are not good platformers. I'm old enough to remember when DKC1 came out, and while the graphics were wild for the time, as soon as you understood how they were achieved they became unimpressive. Also, I thought DKC1 sucked in 1994, and I still think it sucks. I hate stop and go platformers.

i'm not a huge fan of DKC1 but 2&3 are fucking great. i'd know because i replay them ever so often. graphics are irrelevant in face of gameplay and at least 2 and 3 have great gameplay. flawed, maybe even somewhat dated, but most definitely great.
whether you personally enjoy the series however is a whole other issue and is up to personal taste.

i also find it fair to highlight that the series manages to have pretty unique sections and "worlds" without straight up copying/ripping off mario, which is a plus for me.
