Videogame stories are literally worse than comic book narratives. Even shit like Legacy of Kain, which gets tons of praise for it's story, has a plot riddled with holes and characters that act expressly against their own interests.

Writing a story is not a big deal.
Now to use the interactiveness of video games as a medium to engage the player in it, that's another thing entirely.

I mean they didn't tell you specifically what horrible things you did, sure. But they spell it out for you that you did things horrible enough that you sought redemption that would be impossible after death. What those specific acts are really isn't that important.

IIRC, the Nameless One basically set in motion the inevitable and inescapable death of the Planes. No rebirth, no second chance, nothing but a final and ultimate nothingness. It probably won't happen for a very, very long time, even for creatures who can potentially live forever, but once it does, there ain't no coming back.
