I bought that over a Playstation back in the day. The most disappointing system I've ever owned next to the Wii U.
>>
>>383917496
every 5th gen console that isnt the saturn, original playstation, or the n64.

This, the Saturn, NeoGeo, 3DO, Atari 7800, Sega CD 1 and the Switch come to mind.

Yeah, I'm sorry that Japanese-exclusive games weren't exactly an easy thing to get for an American kid in the 90's. But sure, it's because I have bad taste and not that the system literally had no fucking games over here.

Kinda related. I bought this thing and don't know what to do with it.
>>
>>383919450
it has some good games, bust a move, road rash, wolfenstien 3d, ect.

it just wasn't a good console.
>>
I've never seen a Switch in real life or played with one. They're out of stock everywhere. Makes me feel like that nobody is actually playing those Switches but getting them for the sole purpose to scalp them or store them in a storage unit forever.
>>
>>383917496
Never played an N64, NES, SNES, or Mega Drive. Have played a Vectrex and a Virtual Boy for a few minutes at a convention though.

i forgot to buy that thing when it first came out
i heard it can render SNES graphics at the price of $20 adn have 40 hour battery life on a single AAA. Still wondering if its bullshit since nobody I know ever bought one.
>>
>>383917496
I liked the aesthetic but literally everyone I know only had a SNES or a Playstation
>>
>>383920893
>>383919320
Same but wasn't it only release in Japan? I wouldn't really expect a foreigner to know about it.

Was that thing actually meant for human hands?
>>
>>383921220
It got shilled in US the same way those digimon fad tamagotchi things did. I saw an ad about it in a mag once boasting about having FF and One Piece games.
>>
>>383920893

I owned one. It's a pretty solid handheld. The graphics are on par with the GBA, but the sound chip is similar to the original GB. The weird d-pad design was so the device could be used vertically or horizontally, as some games used different perspectives. (e.g. Shooters like Space Invaders)

I think the screen on the WSC had even worse ghosting than the pea soup Game Boy dot matrix, but there was a hardware revision called Swan Crystal that supposedly addressed this. Unfortunately, none of the WS models included a backlit screen.

If you had the right connections, it was easy.
>>
>>383917496

the D pad on that particular saturn controller is superior to all other Dpads ever

wish I could get one for USB
>>
I've got mine literally not even three feet away from me right now. It's basically just a dedicated NiD machine since I love that fucking game but I do pick up some other games from time to time. Got a copy of NBA Jam the other day actually, good shit.

also, they had a cable that would link up to the dreamcast so you can transfer shit like what nintendo did with the gba/gamecube. kind of sad that both snk and sega went third party in the same year (2001).
>>
>>383922587
No need to get bitchy, love.
Gaming magazines had ads where you could call and mail in orders for imports on games, or had the numbers for stores where they sold Japanese games. The latter was much easier if you lived in a city. No excuses, you simply had to ask around or have a gaming magazine.
>>
I wanted this so bad. Could not find it anywhere.. also didn't have $700.

And only for two fucking games.
>>
I was 12 years old when the Sega Saturn came out. My dad and I bought one at Kmart. We hooked it up to the TV, changed to channel 3, and did not get any video. We took it back to the store because we couldn't figure out how to use it. lol
>>
>>383922565

no, model 1 was way better imo

it was great for performing rolling moves in street fighter
>>
>>383922986

>they didn't try channel 4
>>
>>383917496
The local "retro" game store has pretty much one of everything in display so I'm well acquainted with them.
They're all bigger in person imo.
>>
N64.

Only people who owned one in the UK were usually kids too poor to get a PS2. I lived in a reasonable well-off area, so, I never saw one.
>>
>>383923285

outside of mario 64 you didn't miss much
>>
>>383923231
Only channel 2 and 3 were used for games.

nintendo is an american thing
its pretty common for people to not own a nintendo product outside the us
>>

It doesn't feel as bad as you'd think, eventually a smaller version of that controller came out with smaller buttons closer together because of said small.

Having six buttons on the Saturn was actually really nice, would like to see what could be done with that now if Sega developed a new controller based off that
>>
Neo Geo.

Played the arcades a bunch of times, but I've never touched the console.
>>
>>383920893
I saw this shit had Klonoa games I think? Also I'm kind of sure it can't render SNES graphics.
>>
Panasonic 3DO?
>>
>>383924879
Me and my brother saved our pennies and went to Best Buy to get a Dreamcast. As we were in line to buy it the system, some nerd in his 30s got behind us and trashed talked the system. He told us to save our money and buy a PS2 instead. It was my first time encountering an adult nerd and I eventually became one.
>>
never played on an xbox console, not even at toysrus or media markt. ive never seen the 360 or the xbone live.

althouth i have been using their controllers for years

other than that, i never played or seen in the flesh the oldies, like anything prior to the NES
>>

Good times.
