I'll start
Shame the MP Trilogy cut the menus out, used to just fuck around with this on the original.
>that pan out you have to skip every time for Crystarium
>having no hotkey for Map like FFXII (a tacit admission that there's no reason you'd want to look at a hallway map
>Datalog
Shit menu, mediocre at best.

I can understand perfectly if some people hate it with burning hatey of hate, but damn if I can't appreciate the attempt to overanimate menu of all things.
>>383916040
If someone hates it they're just contrarian edgelords.

>>383920032

Metro menus were great
>>383914684
The menu tricked me into thinking how good the game will be when I progress
Good idea on their side tbqhwufam
>>383918342
It is. Kingdom Hearts.
>>383920032
Doesn't he let his wife design these shits?
>>383918342
Fuck no. Cutting off from gameplay, changing the music when you open it, assigning the same button you use to open the menu to fucking unskipable help bullshit instead of allowing you to close the menu entirely from any submenu. Not to mention it's a little unresponsive.
I like FFXV but it is a trash, trash menu.
>lurking ui gamedev
This thread is relevant to my interests.
>dat fairy dust
>>383914684
Fuck, I want to play this again so bad.
But I am playing Golden Sun.
Shit, now you done it, OP.
>>383916974
>tfw you boot up this game just to get up and play zork
>>383921794
Make everything super fast, ditch any animations that make transitions take longer than a second, allow people to leave menus from any submenu and redo any menu that requires loading.
Those are general hints that will serve you when developing any sort of UI. Design is nice and all, but it's meaningless if it's a chore to use. Pay attention to P5, their interface is super stylish and full of frills, but it. is. quick.
>>383922161
I'll add: full keyboard control, full mouse control.
>>383921794
The most important aspect of game menus is making cool sounds on selecting
>>383921735
>cutting of music from gameplay
My ultimate vidya pet peeve. Less likely to play xv now
Always loved #fe one and background evolution
>>383916974
I used to fall asleep to the creepy zombies menu music with the zombie pounding on the glass
strangest mix of comfy + spooky

Was Nox really that good? I haven't played it, but I did enjoy Diablo 1 and 2.

99% of mobile games have 1/10 menus, they're pretty much designed around ADHD
>>383914684
Not a fan of that font, I can't really say which are good despite playing a lot of JRPGs, all I know is that Xenogears menu was poop, also games that don't have "new" category so you get something that has no icon, and you're forced to search through a huge list just to find it and see that it was some stupid item that heals 5HP or some shit, also games that don't have alphabetical sorting.
>>383925528
To be fair, mass effect menus were always shit
>>383915590
Its amazing how shitty the Cyrstarium was.
>>383914684
>Want to left right scroll to the next character in crystarium.
>Opens character select instead of going to next character like status screen does.
It's great, but it has some minor problems.
>nobody posted this
C'mon now

damn
remember feeling like a hacking doing that shit
>>383918342
duscae menu was 100000000000000000x better and you know it.
>>383920032
>Smash 4
>have to make a new character for customs instead of being able to change it in the character selection screen
>can't turn on custom moves without turning on equipment bullshit
>random gives you random equipment on top of random moves
>custom moves themselves are obnoxious as shit to obtain
>have to change the rules from time to stocks every single time
>menu itself is just random shapes and colors without any coherence or flow
Are there any channels that discuss vidya menus? The only one I know of is Revui, and he barely posts.
Suikoden III comes to mind. The games graphics weren't that great. But the interface and menues made up for it.
Don't have a picture.
>>383927550
Maybe because it's shit?
>>383914684
>>383918527
Fuckin this.
>inb4 some butthurt faggot says they are over stylized.
For Grand Strat games at least.
Immersive without being too cluttered, the right sounds, not too much information overload but still remains useful, not unresponsive as fuck like the one in CK2.Shame the game is pretty mediocre.
The music and sound effects help too:

Lazy as fuck menu.
Like the rest of this hallway game.
>>383931496
I don't know, in the menu, you can move up, down, left, and right. That's a whole two more directions then you get in the actual game
Halo CE-Reach (especially Reach)
DXHR/DXMD
>>383932094
And three more directions than the game took the series.
