What the fuck happened over there in Japan? The gamecube controller is one of the best controllers out there! Meanwhile the 3DSXL puts indentations in my thumbs and palms..

Aside from that the 3DS has a tonne of advantages:

A wide Variety of games
Backwards compatibility to DS games
(Nearly) all of the 3DS games look amazing.

See the bottom right icon with the monster symbol? Tap that to know what monster you want to "lock on" to. All it really does it pan the camera to the monster but it doesn't fully lock on. Just lets you know where the monster is which is nice for when they do a rush attack or something and go off screen. Anything other question?

I have a launch N3DSXL with a PSP nub for the C-Stick (highly recommend it if your C-Stick is shitty).
I feel kinda bad, though, because I have so many 3DS games and yet I've barely finished any of them. I do really like SMTIV, KI:U and the Zelda remakes. I just wish I could work up the strength to finish a couple of my 3DS games.

I bought the 3DS at launch but didn't like it. Sold it online and bought a 3DS XL, which was what the system should have been at launch. Then I sold that one and got a New 3DS XL. The New 3DS XL ended up being worse than the 3DS XL in everything except sound and loading times. Wish I had kept the regular 3DS XL.

It's twice as heavy as the 3DS XL. The curved edges don't sit as well in your hand. Headphone jack is right in the center which means you need an angled jack. Buttons are smoother. D Pad is somehow worse. Second stick is useless for anything besides Monster Hunter or Xenoblade. Improved hardware makes the thing twice as expensive even though it only works with two games. Doesn't come in Kirby pink.

Monster Hunter Generations is one of those games which mess with the RAM of the 3DS and load a modified OS. When I started Monhun Gen one day when I was on the shitter, I started the game before the SD card contents loaded on the home menu. The game didn't start and was nothing more than a black screen. I gave the 3DS a hard shutdown holding the power button down. When I started it back up, only the blue power light came on and nothing else.

The games don't look that different on the XL. Some games actually look better. The only games that really have problems are original DS games that use the touch screen like Canvas Curse or Ouendan, since the touch doesn't register as well on the bigger screen. But this is an issue even with the base 3DS.

I was one of the two who were able to get this at gamestop. Thinking of selling it now.

After playing on my switch I can't stand the low resolution of the screen and the unergonomic design anymore.
I got the following games:
- Fire Emblem Awakening (awesome, finished it, loved it)
- MM Remake (didn't like it, prefer the N64 version)
- Pokemon X (didn't play it much)
- Fire Emblem Fates Special Edition (got bored)

Yeah so I might sell all this in a package. Hoping to get a good price since the 3ds and Fates are considered rare. Or at least last time I checked

I thought it was completely fine, though it does stay faithful to its much older and more experimental design which can lead to some grievances like desert and swamp maps being miserable and all sitting in a row with each other. The story and everything related to that are actually not bad though and manage to be passable enough Just keep in mind the gameplay is both outdated and heavily experimental compared to other FEs and try not to let it affect your outlook on that part of the franchise if you ever look into the other games after it.

I'm playing M&L Paper Jam, nearly at the end I presume, I've actually reached Bowser's Castle
But damn, these Paper craft battles are starting to get annoying
They were fine back when they were easier and required less skill, but now that the difficulty is ramping up, it's pointing out how fucking terrible they control
Turning around on the spot is fiddly at best, and the camera controls are even worse
The amount of times I've fallen into the lava in the King Boo stage just trying to tongue onto the pole or turn around to hit an enemy is too many
It's not fun, I want to be battling in M&L's fun turn based combat system, not some undercooked gimmick mode

I've also been forcing myself through Paper Jam, because I thought Dream Team would be as disappointing as the past couple games and didn't play it, but then I finally did and it might be my new favorite in the series.

Paper Jam just feels like a horrible mistake. I'm kind of confused because back when it came out /v/ was saying how much of an improvement over Dream Team it was. But it just isn't. Somewhat basic but I enjoy it.
Enemies are visible and chase you, making contact via them catching you or by attacking them initates a short normal FE battle. Smashable crates/walls in some areas.

Very little, grinding really isn't needed. Low level runs are more fun for the game anyway, you can substitute level difference with good gear, food buffs and magic shenanigans.

if you want to play Xenoblade, and you happen to have a WiiU, you'd be better off getting the Wii VC one, as someone who's played it, it actually works with the gamepad, so you don't have to fuck around with wii remotes, you'll probably get it a lot cheaper in the process, too

Not that big on styles, I feel how it did the story and slowly went to the different areas really made me enjoy taking new quests, feel just throwing the 5 areas at you in gen and forcing you to go to each area to talk to NPC was dumb, and while I'm happy they brought back some of the 3U monsters I feel they really needed more work since to me they wasn't that much fun to fight.

There's a bunch of people that are still playing MH4U. But sadly more people made the jump than not. Best thing to really do is play some of the single player of MH4U on the side and when you see a Monster Hunter thread ask people to hunt with you. You will find tons of people that way.

If you are actually scared just stick with MH threads until you feel more comfortable. MH threads tend to be pretty beginner friendly. The idea is you should do online once you learn how the monster acts but you can easily jump into starting online right away since it's fairly easy.
