Literally no one cares. A new player doesn't have to know these and they can have plenty of that shit when they start to play the other games - hopefully, a bit more in order of the story arcs. Also 3 is the most vanilla entry of what can be expected from the rest of the series gameplay-wise and storywise. MGS1 was this initially, but it might go back too far for some players.

for the longest time, japanese devs didn't conform to western game design conventions. i mean, they playtested a free moving camera in Snake Eater but Kojima said it made him sick, which is why they didn't include it until Subsistence. now Kojima has swung so far into the other direction that he suggest playing only 3 and then 4 because he's ashamed of the camera in 1 and 2. As usual, we have people that didn't play the series in chronological order first, and maybe not even ever, telling us it's bad.

I played it in chronological order first, kinda. Started with PW, then MGS3 and onwards to MGS4. And I loved it. And I understood all of it. I obviously discovered things in a different order than everyone else, but I also came better prepared for most games. Also the games keep fucking repeating what happened before over and over and over again, like PW which pretty much tells you the entire story of MGS3.

People love to act like it's so fucking deep and you have to get everything right to understand what's happening. It's not that deep. It's wide, but not deep. If anything, reminding the context in which each game was made and released tells you more about it than its position in the series.

Every MGS game treats subjects contemporary to the time of their release, and every game was made like it was the last and is essentially always a spiritual remaster of the previously released game. That is the most important thing to keep in mind when playing it.
