This is the first kind of acknowledgment of Spyro's original design in 12 years. And considering how hellbent Activision has been with the Skylanders version, I couldn't really be any happier to see this.

The original concept for Skylanders had Spyro not as a playable character at all. He was just an NPC that stayed true to his original design. He was grown up and crowned king of Skylands, and was essentially what Master Eon is in the final game. Sometime in development the team decided to scrap the idea, and have him be a playable character. They didn't have a usable model for him, as they didn't think the adult model they originally made would fit as a playable character. So they literally just took one of the models for a dragon character they already made, slapped a purple color palette on it, and called it Spyro.

I really fucking wish I was lying about this.
