Should I play Gothic 1 before 2, or is jumping right into 2 fine?

Gothic 2 Gold Edition is really hard. It's better to start with Gothic 1 to get the basic mechanics first. Also there are some quests that require knowledge from previous game to understand what's going on so yea.

2 is also just the better game mechanically.
