The double jump allows you to correct your positioning after jumping, that is something that's especially required in the remake because of the dodgy ledge detection.
The slide jump feels awkward to use imo, and in situations where it's actually needed it never feels as fluid as the double jump.

The ledge issue is only an issue in the first game BECAUSE you can't slide jump which gives you greater horizontal distance to easily clear a gap. The slide jump also doesn't kill any momemtum like the double jump, gives a speed and distance advantage over normal jumping, and the extra height allows for midair corrections. The slide jump can also be used alongside a spin to get insane height as part of a well known bug(?).

I did mention all the new features didn't I? I'm talking about the quality of level design itself.
Even when Crash 2 is my all time favorite I can't help but feel like the quality of some parts is kinda questionable, like the ruin levels which just consist of square platforms floating in void. Being bit creatively bankrupt is fine if it serves the gameplay well, but it's just not as well designed as similar levels like generator room in Crash 1. Main issue I have is lack of fun challenge.

I agree with this, Crash 2's levels feel too non-specific, like here you're in a sewer, now there are bees everywhere. Crash 1 had more of a sense of progress as you went from island to island until you evetually reached Cortex' lair. Crash 1 feels like an adventure, Crash 2 feels like a chore, but that's just my shitty opinion.

I think Tiny and N. Tropy manage to edge him out just a bit, but Kong's definitely a top contender.

Crash 1 is infuriating primitive bullshit, Crash 3 is easy game for babbies. Crash 2 manages to find a balance and is actually legitimately challenging but not frustratingly hard, and with practice you can actually master it.

are all unintentional mechanics and ruin some of the "puzzle" platforming in bonus rounds (ND never intended the player to jump more than 3 boxes high), but they make running around and especially speed-running feel so smooth.

The power-ups in Warped were just game breaking. Trying to do some of the bonus rounds without using them is Crash 1-tier challange, but its rendered useless because you can just shoot boxes with the bazooka and clear any jump with ease. They dont even do any metroidvania stuff where you cant 100% a level until you come back with the Double Jump or whatever. You only use powers in levels after you get them, and the only times they are actually nesisiary (instead of a lame crutch) its woefully simple. The only time I ever felt intelligent using them was trying for Platnium Relics.

I'm so conflicted. Before playing the N.Sane trilogy I thought Crash 2 was the better one but now I can't decide. Crash 3's platforming is better but has less of it overall, while Crash 2 is almost entirely platforming but isn't as good as 3s.
