Strange, I also tryed DRK when I got there, switched from healer (WHM), and I loved it. Actually I was a bit overwhelmed, because they kinda dump all those skills on you at 30, as opposed to other classes where they gradually ease you into how to play the class, so it was rough. I'm almost positive that Viera will be a reward for the new Ivalice raid series, since Yoshi has dropped a ton of hints in regard to them. He even had an interview right before SB launch and talked about the biggest hurdle they're having with Viera is the shoe models in the game, on top of that old concept art from ARR-era due to them topping the charts. It sounds to me like Yoshi and team have been working on incorporating them for some time now, and we're very likely to see some kind of model when 4.1 hits, unless they go Wilson on us and just have it where we see the top half of their model obscured by objects in the world, and people rip the models to find like Hyur feet or something.

A lot is unknown about Primals and how they function, nearly every new Primal you encounter is some exception or teaches you something previously unknown.

More than just that, Bahamut can be considered the catalyst for your summoning, and you're now also tied to Midgardsormr who is also a force of nature, many things can explain how you don't get noticed, and there are some nods here and there from other characters about how exceptional your existence is, like Alphinaud making mention of your limitless supply of Anima (and thus your ability to just teleport everywhere, which isn't actually normal at all)

The Warriors of Darkness wanted to save their world from becoming a void of light. They decided the only way to do this was to help the Ascians "rejoin" the world by causing a calamity on Hydaelyn (this is why the ascians engineer calamities, it causes the reflection worlds to rejoin with zodiark), since they figure destroying their world is better than letting it become an eternal void.

They try to trigger a calamity by giving beast tribes the means to summon primals, and then further provoking those beast tribes by slaying the primals. This has been the Ascians' MO since day 1. By attacking the beast tribes, they summon stronger and stronger primals, which they eventually figure will lead to a calamity. Basically this was just the ascians using them for their own agenda because they were in a desperate situation and had no idea what else to do.

Urianger was in on it because the ascians approached him with the same deal, thinking they could convince him to turn traitor. The Ascians argued that the reflection worlds are unnatural, and that they must be rejoined so that Zodiark can be reborn and restore balance to Light and Darkness. Urianger went along with it but secretly planned to undermine their plan as a double agent. He eventually succeeded by forcing the WoL and WoD to do battle, which prompted the WoD to use their crystals of light. Using both the WoL's and WoD's crystals, he managed to scrounge enough power for Hydaelyn to summon Minfilia, who has been effectively absorbed by Hydaelyn and become a part of her. Minfilia then had enough power to take both herself and the WoD back to their own world, and save it by absorbing the excess Light that threatened to make it a void, which is really better than what the WoD were trying to do.

There was nothing wrong with the plot, the problem was that the WoD were not legitimized as antagonists because they failed to accomplish anything noteworthy before being defeated.

Reminds that Lalafell are responsible for our characters being relegated to nodding or tilting their head aside in cutscenes. There can never be any physical contact with NPCs because they always need to factor in the fucking potatos in that.

SB was fine for the most of it IMO, Lyse isn't even a factor until the Lochs and that's an extremely short zone.

Most of it is dealing with your role in the world, showcased in the dialogue options available to you, you can play yourself as a cynical mercenary, a devout champion of justice and more, which was great. Telling Alphinaud that Ala Migho wasn't your fight, and his reaction to it, was great.

A lot of the side quests emphasize for example that despite all you do, you're still an adventurer at heart, and focus on doing those things.

Doma in general was nice just through seeing that they didn't NEED the WoL as some kind of fix-all, you weren't a legend or a crutch, you were a companion and a champion, but in the end the people there carried their own weight.

Then back to Ala Mhigo and it gets a bit dull, it was nice to see the Alliance do shit on their own as well, and most of your involvement was on your own initiative due to Krille as well (and the fact that your character built up a rivalry with Zenos, which was actually fairly well done) and you could potentially be playing a character that doesn't give a shit about Ala Mhigo but only wants another shot at Zenos.

What sucks is after you beat him the story somehow shifts completely to Lyse, people rush in not to congratulate you and celebrate, but end up comforting and reassuring Lyse... wat?

I can understand the fights themselves not being very engaging, as it just feels like you lose to cheap bullshit (at the same time that just made me look forward to beating him) but that's probably part of the narrative, the WoL is probably as frustrated by that whole ordeal as you were, and that is showcased by how eager the WoL is to attack Zenos again in Doma.

This also lends credence to the fact that the WoL is a primal, or at least similar to one, as your fight with Zenos, victory over the Xeala tribes and liberation of Doma leads to more people believing in you, your strength, and your ability to see this through.

Similarly, opposite to you fighting Zenos on isolated battlefields your final showdown is with you having an army at your back and everyone wishing for your success, suddenly Zenos isn't an insurmountable powerhouse and you shrug off even his previously devastating attacks, even fusing with a primal was of no consequence anymore, which ties the narrative neatly to the actual gameplay, you only need to actually take note of it.

They're in every settlement doing most of the organizing except in the Fringes, they're also credited with being the ones handling all the logistics if you pay attention to the quests, since the fighting is next to the Shroud.

The difference is that the Adders are basically the military of the Girdanians, Mealstorm is similar, whereas the Flames are basically just one branch in a city state full of mercenary/private armies, they also have one less primal to deal with, as Ul'dah have only Ifrit, and the Flames never actually end up fighting them at any point.

The fight is fairly trivial, cleared it on the first try with no difficulty since he doesn't really do anything you haven't seen before, and cast times and markers allow you to dodge and preempt most incoming damage.

Story was constantly putting Lyse in the spot light. She's the only character who is with you for the whole journey. She narrates the opening of each zone, she gets cutscenes that mostly revolve around her. e.g. most of the Ala Gannha sidestory, the cutscene with her and Hien while they were locked up in Azim, the cutscene where she confronts Fordola in Specula Imperatoris and again in Ala Mhigo, plus several other miscellaneous scenes where she and the WoL have a little heart-to-heart. And then of course her being made leader of the Resistance for no reason, her attacking Zenos, and leading the victory parade right at the end despite having done nothing the whole expansion. Oh yeah, and let's not forget she's half the focus of the expansion trailer and on the fucking box art.

Lyse as a character isn't SO bad, she's kind of dumb and naive and annoying, but that's okay. She's flawed, that's alright. What puts her into "infuriating" territory is that the game clearly expects you to believe that she is the main character of Stormblood by constantly giving her the spotlight, and yet she does NOTHING. She follows your character around, punches trash mobs, and gets angry at peasants for not fighting the army with technomagic deathbots. She doesn't grow, she doesn't develop, she doesn't achieve anything, she doesn't move the plot forward, she's just THERE. You are the one doing all the heavy lifting, and yet you are basically stuck playing Lyse's bodyguard.

You get to the end of the story, vanquish probably the strongest being to ever live and finally liberate Ala Mhigo from 20 years of imperial oppression, and this is what you are treated to. This do-nothing baby being showered with adulation and attention, acting like she just saved the day, while you stand awkwardly behind her.

First off, this is either pasta or you made this exact post before.

Second, Lyse being what she is isn't bad at all in the early parts of Ala Mhigo and Doma, she gets about as much attention as the other side characters like the twins, Hien, Gotetsu etc. She's a narrative device where it's explained to a naive idealist why her dreams need to meet reality.

The problem is that it never resolves. She never seems to wake up from her naivete and in fact just seems to double down on it, as demonstrated by her treatment of Fordola and her absurd reaction to Zenos' suicide, she's almost the exact opposite of Alphinaud's development in HW (and lets not pretend he wasn't just as annoying in ARR)

The finale is especially poorly done, I had resolved myself not to be bothered since threads here kind of let me know what to expect, but it was impossible. You had indeed just defeated something absurdly powerful, not only was Zenos extremely powerful, he had beaten you twice before and was going to be the catalyst of the whole damn thing, everything would be fucked if you had lost to Zenos.

And the result? Lyse rushes in to try and prevent his suicide, the entire cutscene revolves around Raubahn consoling her instead of congratulating you, and you march off to watch her wave at the soldiers and peasants... why is Lyse waving at the soldiers and peasants? Why isn't Raubahn giving a victory speech to HIS troops? The people don't there largely haven't got a clue who Lyse even is, people know her as the daughter of some other fuck and that's what gives her credibility, but most of those folk have either never seen her before or don't know a damn thing about her... so why is she the one waving?

Just so fucking baffling, resulting in her now being an even lower tier character than Nanamo and Minfilia for how poorly she was handled, despite her not being all that bad up to the Fringes/Lochs sections.
