Is there anything left to be done in the 2D platforming genre?

It is really old, I just picked it randomly
hollow knight brought it full circle and the genre will be derivative """"souls-like""""" metroidvanias and typical indie pixelshit forever

Lots of stuff, probably. Just off the top of my head: Some sort of turn based platformer that functions like a roguelike? Might be stupid, could be cool. Just an example. Or even a 2D SUPERHOT might be interesting. Also playing as the Sniper in Gang Garrison (2D Tf2) is something that I don't think I've seen anywhere else and could maybe be explored further. These are just the ideas I've thought of in a minute, the point is there's probably further to go.

Hollow knight just ripped off Scrooge McDuck
always hard to say until someone does flip a genre on it's head. platforming is a hard one to totally "revolutionize" because at its core it's just running and jumping so any changes to the formula are usually borrowing from other genres

>turn based platformer
I can't even begin to imagine how that must play like.
