While I love Wind Waker and agree with your other sentiments, especially acknowledging Midna's depth, this isn't that true.

Majora's NPC's are structured around the time frame, yes, but narrative-wise it's far from limiting.
Though they are bound to those stories in that 3 day time span, there are multiple story branches you can access but interacting with them, therefore offering far more depth and nuance to their arcs and purpose to the themes of the game than Wind Waker's NPC's, which roughly have A to B structure verses.
I can hardly see how that shapes up against MM's A to A, A to B and even A to C structure's, considering you can either

I'm not denying the variation of outcomes yielding a lot of different moments for a character. It's the fact that they are variable in such a way that weakens them I feel.

It's the standard time travel story problem of it being difficult to care about other timelines.

Stein's;Gate as an example does good storytelling with time travel, while acknowledging the fact that you're moving on to another timeline, the other timelines leave a lasting impression on the MC and most evoke specific thoughts or ideas in the viewer.

But the alternate timeline characters still don't really stand up as good characters. It turns them into framing devices instead.

I'm not saying that the individual moments are not good, or that the variation of possibilities experienced throughout the story are less than those of a character that sticks with the main plot thread consistently.

Just that a character, like Midna and like a few in WindWaker can only really be defined through successive reactions in sequence.
As opposed to the same actions delivered independently in parallel and not touching.

After Battle of Gods, one of the like hundred people that make up Frieza's army now snuck onto Earth to use the Dragonballs to bring Frieza back. Rather than just rebuild his empire, Frieza bought a gameshark and made himself more powerful than Super Saiyan Blue in the space of 4 months. Just so we're clear: Super Saiyan Blue is the SS version of Super Saiyan God. And the only reason he lost is because he got tired too fast.

It fucking kills me that some of you guys actually think that there is any substantial difference in quality in any part of Dragon Ball's writing. Super and Buu are every bit as poorly written as Saiyan, Frieza, and Cell arcs.

This is the genius that Super fails to aspire to:

Is this really THAT far out there? In his saga, Frieza performed 4 transformations in the space of 2 or 3 days. Some of them were the first time in his life. Who's to say he can't escalate like that in 4 more months?

Remember that time when that only worked out once? Goku arrived against the Saiyans, did good for the first round and got stomped for the remainder of the fight. Krillin probably had more to do with that victory since he's the one who remembered how to fight Oozaru's since he had to deal with Goku becoming one when they were children. Yajirobe was the one who cut Vegeta's tail taking away his strongest trump card at the time and Gohan was the one that finished the fight entirely. Goku was out of play for the entire second half.

And during the fight with Ginyu waiting for Goku actually worked AGAINST everyone since even though Ginyu didn't know how to work Goku's body that still left the gang with an even stronger enemy they had to fight. Vegeta did most of the heavy lifting during that bout.

Waiting for Goku only worked for Frieza.

The remnants of Freeza's army use the Earth Dragon Balls (since they can't find Namek) to resurrect Freeza because they're in shambles and are having a hard time operating. Freeza wants revenge on Goku and the Super Saiyan who killed him, but knows that he's not strong enough, especially in his current weakened state after being revived. He decides that he will "train for the first time in his life" to get revenge, apparently meaning that his massive power during Namek was all natural. In three months, he becomes far stronger and goes straight to Earth to draw out Goku while his army is fended off by characters like Gohan and Master Roshi. Goku, who's training with Vegeta with the angel Whis on the God of Destruction Beerus' planet, senses the battle and heads back to Earth with Vegeta. Goku and Freeza fight, Goku activates Super Saiyan Blue (basically Super Saiyan with the divine ki of Super Saiyan God) while Freeza transforms into "Golden Freeza", which he hints is styled after Super Saiyan. Freeza is stronger, and Vegeta takes over the fight as Super Saiyan Blue, and they realize Freeza never mastered his transformation, running out of strength fast. Freeza throws a temper tantrum, blows up Earth, and Whis reverses time so Goku can come in and beat him before his temper tantrum.

In the most recent arc of Super, Goku brings Freeza back from the dead for one day to participate in the Tournament of Power, an event where eight universes are competing with 10 warriors each, with the winning universe being the one chosen to survive.
