Not pictured: SSB Link and 8-Bit Link, which my sister borrowed along with my Wii U so she could play BOTW.

Pretty decent-sized collection. I don't have the budget or desire to collect 'em all or anything, and mainly focus on my favorite characters, especially Zelda ones. I also don't buy any that I can't actually use in a game I own.

IMO they're only worth collecting because they're both nifty collectible figurines AND they have actual practical uses as game accessories. If it were just one or the other, I either wouldn't bother or would just only have a few.

QUESTION

Say the same character has different amiibo. Ex: Mario has his Smash one and SMW. Are they cross compatible or is each Amiibo strictly tied to a specific game/feature?

I don't have a picture on-hand, but I own all released amiibo to date. Even the Japan-exclusive ones.

I'm in too deep now to just stop. Might as well see it through to the end and have a complete collection.

They're cross-compatible. Every Mario amiibo functions the same across every game that supports Mario the character.

The only exceptions are the silver and gold Marios, in Mario Party 10 particularly. When you scan those into MP10, the amiibo are pre-equipped with silver or gold tokens (which makes them silver or gold in-game).

If you want to be a madman like me and go for a complete collection, it's a very expensive endeavor and probably very difficult now that many of them are out of print.

But you'll probably be fully satisfied if you just stick to buying ones that a) are for games you actually have and b) are characters you actually like.

Feel Nintendo is in a tight spot with this. If they continue to provide the amount they been doing up to now, scalpers fuck things over. If they overproduce them, even though scalpers will fear buying them because they can't exploit it within their power, it will still leave Nintendo with double the amount (Like AC amiibo) they'd need to sell to make a profit back.

They made way too many AC amiibo to fit a relatively low demand, and they don't make anywhere near enough amiibo to fit the much higher demand for the Zelda amiibo. Not to mention the NES mini bullshit where they didn't even consider producing more units after they sold out instantly.
