Question for fellow EO4 players in this thread - is retiring really worth it / necessary? I'm kinda upset that I'm capped at 70 (or whatever their hard limit was) and don't want to go through all the effort of making the same team just so they can bump up to max level. I love the party I started with, but just don't want to go through the effort of bringing their successors up and beyond the originals. I also hate how the system says "Hey, see this FOE that's the next boss? You should be able to take it on when you're 10 levels below it. Go get 'em, tiger."
Granted, EO4 is my first EO so far. Still enjoying it, and the demo made me enjoy it. Dunno if I should pick up any sequels for it. Was considering getting Persona Q eventually, but I figure it'll be the same schtik just with specific characters.

Also, how's the EO Dungeon Crawler? I was considering picking that up too, since I loved Chocobo's Dungeon when I was younger, and the Pokemon Mystery Dungeon games aren't bad either.

I dunno. I stopped in the dungeon in section 4(?) I think because life caught up to me. Right after they introduce the third bonus race to you - the elites or whatever .
Last I recall, the game was promoting my characters being capped at 70 or 77 or something, and they wanted me to retire them so I could get more skill points or so I could reach level caps or something. It's been a good half a year / year+ since I touched the game.

For EO Dungeon crawler, it is good if you like that kind of game play, it's also kinda easy people have beaten it with only one character. They announced the sequel to it so hopefully they fix it a bit.

The Level Cap is 70 until you kill one of the 3 Dragons, at which point it raises by 10, up to 99.

Retiring actually gives the new unit more points to spend on skills, with an additional point for every 10 levels they have (unless they're Lv. 99, in which case they get 10 bonus skill points regardless).
Ultimately, retiring is kind of pointless, as those additional skill points aren't all that useful, since they'll usually end up dumped into a skill you don't really need.

By the way, is it just me, or are the Nightseekers just a pretty tough class from the get-go? I've had one at the front lines since the demo, and I subclassed him into a Bushi and he just seems quite strong especially with the dual-wielding.

Get to 70 -> Retire at 70 -> Kill Dragons -> Get to 99 -> Retire again
Reasonably speaking, you could ignore the first retirement until you kill the dragons and hit 99, though it'll generally be a bit more difficult naturally. Of course, there's really little reason to not retire considering how insanely easy it is to grind up levels in 4.

I ask all these seemingly stupid questions and say all this stuff just because if I can invest in a retirement for the first wave of guys I made and just remake them for the bonus skill points without any major losses, I want to make sure it's worth the effort instead of going through with it and regretting my decision when it's too late.

Sheepfuel is easy to get. Just slap on sleep guards and spam DPS until you win. There's a reason why it's seen as THE way to grind retirement.

You can literally just make the same name+portrait combination.

In exchange for improved stats, and more importantly, more skill points. It's a total non-issue, and with your gear you'll be getting back to where you were in virtually no time at all, especially if you listen to what that anon said about grinding, you'll get it done in literal minutes.

See the above. Level grinding is 4 is literally the easiest it's ever been in the series.

Sometimes they'll spawn if you're lucky. Otherwise, you can grab Gold Stinkhorn from the same area and feed them to get rares. Forget the name, but you can raise the chance of farming rare vegetables by equipping a certain part of your ship. Like that other anon mentioned, grab some sleep guard and you can kill'em easily. If you really want to power-level, you can scan some guildcards online and recruit one of their party members. Party members you import from guildcards don't gain exp, so everything will siphon onto your actual party. With this method, you can basically just set your party to one guildcard lackey and one other person from your guild to quickly level that member.

Nintendo wants 3DS to keep selling into 2018. Atlus has also historically developed for platforms beyond their 'life expectancy'. Wouldn't be surprised to see 3U on 3DS. Keep the same budget constraints without having to worry about adjusting to the Switch.

Also, beating a Hollow in 1 turn? You'd need a leg bind or insane luck to do that, and the Hollow Magus is still free to attack, which could include buffing (and waking up) the lion.

I'm around 70 hours into EOIV as my first EO game. It's fun, I have:
Fortress(/medic)
landskrenktkesksk(/dancer)
Medic(/Runemaster)
Runemaster with no secondary class yet
And a Ranger(/circle casting twiglet)
I've really just stuck with my Original party, do you guys do that or do you train up the newer classes?

How well does the Necromancer play with other classes that have summons, like the Dragoon and Hound? I want to include one in my team when EO5 gets released, but looking at Necro's skill tree, I just have no idea how to effectively plan around one. They seem like jack of all trades and master of none.

I don't think subclassing killed the balance in 3, it was really gladiators. Fuck gladiators. Everything worth a damn in the game revolves around them and I hate it. They have better offense + defense than anything other than Yggdroids... who can only deal real damage by subbing Gladiator. Everything aside from balance in 3 is GOAT, however. Fantastic dungeons, aesthetics, muzak, bosses, characters, etc. and still has a lot of cool shit even if it's wonky. Ninjas and Wildlings were pretty rad compared to the other games. Until V it was a a totally unique thing and even then Bunshin still is.
