Something I do hope is that they make a DLC pack for the Heroes OCs. In all honestly, I'd rather have them as the OCs of this game but I think a DLC pack for them could work.

Alphonse, Sharena, and Anna would all make great additions, and they could even throw in Veronica and Bruno for more variety. On top of that, they all could even get new promotion classes for added variety. With Al and 'Rena, I mostly see them as Ike and Lucina Lite, but they can do literally anything with Anna.

Ike is extremely popular everywhere because of Smash (and the chances of him not being in the game is likely zero given that he has an amiibo) and characters like Hector probably did well for the same reason Lyn did i.e. lots of votes from western fans (as we know Lucina got much more votes in Japan than Lyn did).

Select few characters doing better than others doesn't signify that those games were more popular. If you looked at how well all the characters from their respective games did in the poll as a whole the rankings ended up being:

It's one thing to prioritize new characters for heavily contested niches, it's idiotic not to look to older games for niches that aren't competitive though. I'd say that Sacred Stones smashed the momentum of the franchise in the west after Smash and FE7. Why? Because it was an inferior copy of FE7, lazily shat out. It could have been a FE7 mod. That was the real disease that was killing Fire Emblem: I don't know whether it was publishers, the devs, or both, but either way, someone important just didn't care about the product.
