I did, 400 was about what I imagined the Rift would cost before the price was actually announced, 600-800 is just way too much. I had borrow a friend's before and was really impressed, so I pulled the trigger. Robo Recall and Echo Arena are great, still exploring other titles like Onward which I have to get used to, waiting on my 3rd sensor which is shipping. Overall I dig it, but yes it definitely needs more content. The GOOD content it has though is real good.

This. I'm also looking at graphics cards since I'm still on a 680. If I'm gonna get a new video card I might as well go deep and not get a middle-of-the-road card like a 1050, but the best deal I can find is a 1080 for $500. Everything else is sold out or overpriced because of the recent bitcoin mining boom. Shit sucks.

Still waiting. Fuck Amazon, 2 day Prime shipping my ass.

I'd have to upgrade my video card, and buy a PCI USB slot because the Rift is incompatible with some motherboards' USB hardware.

In total it'll end up costing me close to a thousand bucks. Getting 8 more GB of RAM and an SSD probably wouldn't hurt either.
>>
>>383847692
I just wanna say that, even for porn, it's just not worth it. 400+tax and a good rig. That's where they get the normies, normies dont have good rigs. No returning the 400+tax headset
>>
Anyone else who jumped in, what are some must haves both free and paid?
My short list so far:

Robo Recall
Echo Arena
Rec Room
Elite (I know the game becomes a grind but never played it until I got the Rift, in VR it's wild)
>>

You know what's even less expensive than $399? $200+ because that's the new price of VR headsets from other companies these days. That's why they are now decreasing their large profits taken from suckers like you.

Rather not fall for the VR meme.
I don't want to be one of those guys who talks about it all the time because they feel the need to justify their purchase.

I'm jumping on board, but buying direct from Oculus is a fucking disaster. I got lucky and someone cancelled their order so Best Buy got some stock but I still have to wait for it to ship. It probably won't get to me until Monday which is a real drag.

Unfortunately for you, I know shit. They are coming and at par with these two and that's not even good. Thanks for being a first gen loser for an expensive accessory full of tech demos.
>>
>>383850029
The headsets you talk about are the ones that truely don't have games because they aren't supported at all. They're all inferior to the Rift and Vive with no motion control support either.
>>
Personal feelings so far-

Immersion - really amazing. Played Job Simulator and a bunch of games I had that are VR ready. Just finished doing that First Contact tutorial demo which was mind blowing. It's a good indicator of the quality of stuff that the future might bring. Really is an escape, for all intents and purposes. Was not expecting it to be as good as it is.

Games - only played Job Simulator so far but it was really cool. Very short though which is probably a good thing. Simulation sickness is real. Changes other games in a huge way but they seem to be quite as "playable" as they are when played in normal mode.

Usability - Annoyingly cluttered. Wires all over place, eats up desk space, uses up all your best USB ports, sensors everywhere, calibration is kinda screwed if you don't have lots of room. General annoyances with oculus shell and using menus. It's like two notches above being unacceptable.

Porn - wow.

Touch Controls - incredibly accurate and intuitive. Almost thought these would be sheer gimmick but it's actually necessity. Really like the possibilities for unique games in the future.

The one thing I hate though is how much of a buttfuck it is to use with glasses. Really wish they could've done something to make it usable without them for nearsighted people.
>>
>>383851237
>because they aren't supported at all
Thanks to software like OSVR and OpenVR (what the Vive uses), they don't need to be supported by each and every dev for them to run games.
>>
>>383850554
Do what you want with your money. I'm not here to sell the rift. I'm just talking about it with other people who got it.

>>383848086

How's that?
>>
>>383851707
I can tell you've never even looked into OSVR if you think it's truly supported. Sure you can get games to run but it's completely unsupported by developers. Also what's your option for controls? You're basically stuck with a gamepad or old Razer Hydras.
>>
>>383851927
Devs are much more responsive there, as Oculus doesn't really have forums per game. Steam also handles config files better (won't overwrite User.json settings file every update, Oculus did). Room scale tracking by default on steam, have to opt in by editing config files on Oculus.

The models and stuff swap properly to touch models on steam version so it's totally worth it.
>>
>>383851581
Rift was supposed to come with an extra set of foam for people with glasses but they cucked people at the very last second. It was even listed on the order page like a week before they started shipping. I think you can buy them separate now though.

Vive is much better for glasses since you can adjust the distance to the lens and comes with another set of foam.
>>
>>383851719
Well clearly I thought you wanted an argument, but whatever floats your boat.
>>
>>383852120
Vive is basically gen 2 if you consider Oculus gen 1. It's not even comparable. It's a shame it's made by HTC, the price is absurd. Can't wait for other steamvr headsets.
>>
>>383852705

>basically gen 2

Aside from the "better" tracking solution, is it really? Be honest now.

>>

>screen doesn't blur colors
>headset is adjustable to allow for glasses
>came with roomscale out of the box
>doesn't require a huge mess of wires, can even be used with a wireless setup
>has different styles of motion controllers
>>
>>383852938
I have three Oculus rifts and two vives at my desk (dk2, cv1, Vive dev kit, Vive pre) at my office.

Oculus field of view is a tiny bit better, tiny bit clearer. The tracking is literally unusable. It's disgusting. I get physically angry thinking about people trying to play with it. It constantly goes out, flickers, flies off into space, etc. Vive is basically flawless in terms of tracking.

The problem is Oculus got 90% of the way to perfect tracking. Vive got 100% there. That last 10% means the world.

Vive drivers/setup is much nicer as well. Only need one usb 2.0 slot with one hdmi slot. Oculus needs four usb slots (headset, 3 trackers) all a special usb 3.0 type, which means you probably need to buy a USB hub.

Oculus also makes you watch a long video or else you have to click to confirm some anti lawsuit message every 10 minutes between game sessions.

I could go on but I'm starting to get red eyes over how mad they make me as a dev
>>
>>383853414
>The tracking is literally unusable. It's disgusting. I get physically angry thinking about people trying to play with it. It constantly goes out, flickers, flies off into space, etc.
I've only had mine for two days but I haven't once experienced anything at like this. It's been 1:1 perfect for me so far. I'm also not using a DK though.
>>
>>383852938
Not him but they're the same gen if you get the 3rd sensor, saying otherwise is just fanboyism. Oculus' tracking for room scale feels like an afterthought but they made it work that for most people they're the same, just with more effort involved to get the Rift for room scale.

But the thing about the Vive is that they've come out with the DAS, wireless, and soon the new Knuckle controllers will support it. With all these I'd say it's a gen ahead. It's also going to cost you what the Rift is now to upgrade though.
>>
>>383853414
>Oculus also makes you watch a long video or else you have to click to confirm some anti lawsuit message every 10 minutes between game sessions.
Also what is this? I haven't seen this once?
>>
>>383853414
>Oculus field of view is a tiny bit better,

Vive has a higher FoV. This was objectively measured when they came out. You're just wearing it wrong if Rift has more FoV.
>>
>>383853639
Try turning around :^)

Oh, you dropped something on the floor in job sim? Guess you can't pick it up lol

Did you know about the dirty donut in the trash can under the desk that makes you throw up? Good luck picking that up

Something just beyond the tracking range you want to touch? Nope!

>>383853712
It's buried in settings iirc. If you don't opt to watch it you just get that shitty (stare at this legal message for 5 seconds to continue) message.

>>383853771

I already did that to look behind the chairs in the cockpits of the crafts in elite dangerous and subnautica... Nothing happened. I just saw stuff.

>>383854032
Try reaching behind you with a controller. You'll notice a lot of Oculus games try to cleverly keep you staring in one direction so you don't notice the shit hardware. Elite dangerous has you in a cockpit so of course you won't notice.

In job sim things disappear and reappear in the Oculus version when they touch the ground. In the Vive one they stay on the ground because the hardware allows you to pick it up
>>
Considering all the shit Occulus is about to go through (Lawsuits, everything with Bethesda, dwindling support), I am worried the damn thing won't even survive the year.

On the plus side, it will be great when they go super cheap.

Are you just using 2 front facing cameras? What exactly is your Oculus set up like?

Wouldn't this setting skip the health and safety stuff?
>>
>>383853897
Your xbox is filthy
>>
>>383854476
Unchecking the health and safety box is what I was referring to with the long video you have to sit through by the way.

My setup is there now, two in front and one behind. The cables are so short though, the tracking range is only a meter or two. My vive is about 5 meters wide. Vive doesn't have any blind spots. Oculus clearly has a blind spot in my case on the southwest which is incredibly frustrating. Not to mention the constant loss in tracking even when it's in plain sight
>>
>>383854240
I'm beginning to think you're just making this up for the sake of hyping the vive. If you like the vive, that's fine but why would lie so much when you can be so easily disproven?

I just finished the chef one a bit ago and I only have a Rift. When you drop things on the ground, that's where they stay until you pick them up. They don't disappear. And in the Rift's own tech demo, you reach behind you to pick up stuff. You're a bullshitter.
