San Andreas had the best assortment of environments, vehicles and activities. Vice City had the most interesting story, characters and side missions. I feel like I spent much more time in San Andreas since Vice City feels dead once you complete all of the voiced missions; both main and side. At least in San Andreas you could plug in a second controller and mess around the areas you have unlocked.

Most missions in Vice City range from decent to fun. I would argue that most of the missions in San Andreas are pretty terrible, and the clear low point of the game. Many aspects of the game are very poorly programmed, especially the AI and the "spook o meter" (even if you are underground and out of site, it will still fill up). The missions are a lot more "learn the mistake, then replay it", (failing the mission if Jizzy explodes with the car, that one boat mission where the guy throws a grenade at you) which can get frustrating. Aside from that most of them just aren't fun anyway.

how do I mod SA to a retarded degree?

Is there a mod to fix the the controls for vice city for a controller? The options menu does jack shit and I didnt have this problem with SA. Both from steam. Like I literally cant look left and right I can only move forward and backward.

Back in the day I would have said Vice City but these days I honestly prefer San Andreas, it's got so much content and great mechanics.

Vice City has the better driving though. San Andreas occupies this really awkward middle ground between Vice City's arcade madness and IV's realism.

I like SA but raising your stats is fucking boring

San Andreas is such a fucking masterpiece. It's big, it's fun, it has loads of great characters, and they added a ton of new mechanics. The radio is my favorite in the series, no matter what's playing when I get in a car I enjoy it. Plus the devs went in with the plan to have you always doing something different in each mission, and they mostly managed that. It keeps the game new and interesting the whole way through.

And then GTA4 came along and fucked everything up.

no it didn't you ungrateful fuck, IV was glorious considering the how much effort was put into the game:
>new engine
>new physics engine which enriched the gameplay
>amazing car damage system
>a very detailed Liberty city, no game before it compares in terms of attention to detail and scope

sure the cover system needed more work and the missions were samey, but the jump from 3D to HD was fucking huge and yet plebs shit on it while defending the piece of dog shit that V is

VICE CITY was better.

The only people saying SA was better, probably didn't even play Vice City!

Now, don't get me wrong, SA was a good and interesting game... but nowhere near Vice City or even GTA III.

i know i'm basically rehashing the first response to this thread, but well
I like vice city more even though I think san andreas is a better game
the music, the aesthetic, the small enough to be memorable but big enough to explore city
vice city is such a fantastic game and tommy vercetti is the most memorable and likeable GTA protagonist
the missions had the perfect halfway measure of the blisteringly hard GTA 3 stuff and the easy ass san andreas stuff, and there's never a dull moment in the game's storyline

san andreas simply has more to do, is much longer, covers a much greater area, has more vehicles, etc. but i always find myself replaying vice city every couple years whereas i've sorta had my fill of san andreas
