More variety, one of the biggest problems with Skullgirls is that the original roster was pretty small and even today it's still tiny considering it's kind off a teams fighter. It's clear it's because the animations are the most beautiful ones out of any fighting game so it's okay, but come on.

That's why I expect and hope that for the sequel (if there's a sequel) they would use the exact same sprites from 2nd Encore and just focus on making the roster bigger. Skullgirls is pretty much the only franchise today that I wouldn't be bothered if they keep using the same models forever, I mean. They are perfect already.

Yes, the game lost all of its hype factor and potential.

Just to use the combo system as an example, they were so fixated on letting you combo moves into each other super easily that combos were basically always touch of death for 2-3 years. They kept trying to nerf the combos in different ways because they didn't want to just change moves in the game to make it harder to combo but it didn't work for ages, and now they finally have a shitty "infinite protection system" which awkwardly and unnaturally forces you to end your combos.
Thing is, the game is way less fun than before, because before touch of death combos kept the game fast, because if you got hit, that was it, you were dead quickly and you moved onto your next character. Now the game devolves into trying to reset combos constantly over and over and it takes ages for you to actually kill anyone, and more of the game is about trying to successfully guess your way out of resets rather than neutral game, which is what made Marvel 2 so interesting.

Problem is they were still too long, crippling the fundamental game design of a "fast-paced fighter" when controller is taken away from you 10 seconds at a time.

Skullgirls would benefit from drastically lower health pools, 5-6 seconds is the treshold when combos start getting obnoxiously long because the other player is literally waiting until the referee gives his controller back to him. Combos that take 70% of your health in one go are fine, those combos lasting way too fucking long in real time isn't.

I'm not going to defend Mike Z interfering in Skullgirls because that game is a fighting game and fan service is pretty much necessary in a fighting game. The animations from Alex looked neat and removing them was a mistake.

But regarding Indivisible, it's clear the game is taking a whole different approach, it's not trying to be fanservice heavy or even have any fanservice period, I honestly think he should change what he thinks necessary visually wise and writing wise. If the game comes out like shit then sure we can shit on him for being a bad writer but I wouldn't blame it on Mike Z "censoring" the game because I don't believe the game is being made with anything to censor in the first place.

Two biggest issues casuals have with the game is the lack of singleplayer content and characters and secondary is the long combos.

First just has to be fixed with hard work, second can be fixed by making the matches much shorter, because generally people don't mind getting destroyed by combos, the issue with Skullgirls is it takes so fucking long to die to it you can read a book while you're being corner-raped to death. And that takes away the feeling of the game being fast-paced.

Compare to other less fast-paced online games like MOBAs where characters with stun abilities can only take your control away 5-8 seconds at most. And for a very good reason or people would very quickly grow bored and frustrated with the game.

Doesn't even have to be Divekick/Samurai Shodown levels of sudden death, just make sure the combos very rarely cross the 5-6 second treshold.

The other updates didn't fix the mess the game was and still is. Delusional skullgirl fags will say the game is dead because "muh casual bogeyman" or "fucking shitters can't play the game" but they forget that most people are shit at fighting games and they still play all the other franchises.

SF5 is fucking garbage and even with simplified game play people still suck at it but it never stopped them from playing it.
GG and BB are a tad more complicated and a lot of /v/ and players in general suck at it but even i can find lobbies in my region.
MK and injustice sell shitloads are people play it even today.

It never occurs to SG fags that their game is just not good or appealing. You can throw as many cool characters as you want but if people don't like how the game plays than it is all for naught. The movement, the mechanics, the combo length are all fucking shit.

Not only that but the game took more than 2 years to actually turn into a profit.


I do like the art so i hope MikeZ changes the gameplay a little in the sequel.

This is the thing that upset me besides the Mahvel-wannabe gameplay.
Because the thing that drew me into Skullgirls in the first place was it's aesthetic, soundtrack and characters. It was a great and unique aesthetic for a fighting game, it gave the game an identity of it's own.
And the first characters I saw before I got the game where Big Band and Peacock, who are easily the ones who fit the aesthetic and soundtrack the most. Words cannot expressed how unbelievably excited I was.
But then I got to the actual game and I found that most of the cast was really just a bunch of animu references with barely any cohesion or character. It's like they lost track of their art direction. Like SF did around the Alpha series.

I mean, the backgrounds, music, and certain characters are still there, there is still a good chunk of that identity in the game. It's not Overwatch-tier.
But it's just one of the things that made me turn away from the hype and dissapointed me in the game.

It didn't die fast, if anything, rather slow and agonizing.
It is a 2012 game. Games in general don't last that long. Take Under Night In-birth which also released in 2012 and is set to get a new version later this year. It sees waaay less numbers on pc.

It still makes higher competition numbers than a few games that are newer but the rare 100 man tournaments don't really turn heads.

People are attributing the 'short lifespan' to the gameplay and roster but even the ones with 'good' gameplay don't last that long.
I'd actually say it lasted significantly longer than should be expected.
